Sunday January 9, 2005

On Sunday I was able to get the old 48 up on jack stands and removed the transmission, clutch, and pressure plate.  Actually things went very well.  Even with all the rust nothing was frozen and all bolts extracted without much effort.  The transmission oil was clean and moisture free.  After a quick inspection 3rd. and 4th. gear worked fine but first and reverse doesn't seem to be working.  O..! Well..! we will check into this in the future.   The clutch and pressure plate below were badly rusted as well as the dust shield on the bell housing.   I think I did the right thing removing this stuff before trying to fire up the motor.    About another 4 weekends and we will try to start this engine.!!!
