Continued the body prep.

Saturday

  • The trunk lid was in very sorry shape.  The bottom and corners were rusted away.  My parts car trunk lid was in worse shape so I decided to fix the one I have.

  • I cut out the completely rusted out sections leaving behind some areas that could help support the body filler.

  • I then sand blasted what was left and sprayed the inner surfaces with rust inhibiting automotive primer.

  • I tack welded in new sheet metal.

  • Ground down the welds, cleaned with acetone, and filled with good quality body putty.

Approximately 8 hours latter and the above is the result.

This is the last major piece of body repair.  The remaining work is spot fill and minor cosmetic repairs.
