The week ending Sunday August 7, 2011
Chipping away at the interior:
Wednesday - A day of prep work.
My rear vent windows were taken apart and cleaned back in April but needed to be painted and assembled. The exterior glass frame had taken quite a beating over the years. I sanded the rust away and masked the glass and painted the glass frames with gloss black Rust-Oleum. I also painted the interior window frames and the back window frame with a chocolate brown gloss Rust-Oleum. Wednesday was so humid that I let the parts dry in the house over night. The air conditioning allowed the paint to dry well before installation.
Since I plan on installing the rug this week I spent the rest of the day cleaning up the floor of the car and sealing any areas where water might come in on the remote chance I get caught driving in a heavy rain.
Thursday & Friday:
I assembled the rear vent windows, installed the new rubber gaskets and made replacement panels for the side pieces under the vent windows. I worked from one side of the car to the other. Before I could install the panels or the vent windows I had to install the wind lace on the rear doors.
Once both sides were done I made the back panel which fits between the rear seat and the rear window.
By Friday evening I had completed the rear of the car the only thing that I still need to do is upholster the rear seat armrests.
I was also able to get the rear rug down. Now I start working on the front doors, panels, and rug.
Saturday:
Fixed a couple of minor things just tying up some loose ends. The rims and the trunk lid are back from the painter. They look excellent.
I also installed the front carpet. Naturally I cut the peddle holes in the wrong spot but after slicing my finger with the scissors I got it right. I'll glue in a some carpet pieces but it doesn't look all that bad. I bought the rug from Kanter and it fit properly, that is if I would have installed it correctly the first time.
