General Discussion / Re: Seasons Greetings to All

This is something we did for our family card this year featuring our girls' guinea pigs and the '29. The inside of the card said "Have a Piggy New Year! (don't tell dad we painted the car!)"

Man, do I feel stupid! Sorry Dave, I have FedCo tags on my mind!

The BODY tag on my '29 is located a few inches inside the A-pillar and door opening, driver's side. It measures 4" x 7/8".

General Discussion / Winged Radiator Cap question...
November 30, 2008, 01:26:32 PM
The winged cap that came on my car has no casting/part number or any other identifying marks underneath. Do any of you guys have an original cap and does it have any markings?

I had an original winged cap (the older threaded style) from a mid-twenties Chrysler that had no markings, so I know that some of the first Chrysler parts had no vender or corporation hallmarks. Just wondering if this was the case on our '28-30 caps.

Sorry John, I wasnt blowing you off, I just didnt look at this thread for a while.

I believe the cowl lamps are original to the car, but who knows. I guess it could have been cloned it into a DeLuxe when it was repainted forty years ago, though I doubt it. However, it certainly wouldnt be hard to do and it does give it that classy look.

I picked up an old reprint of the Plymouth Model Q through PD parts list for $11, well worth it. Very interesting and a good source to have. It makes no mention at all of the artillery wheels being available as varnished/unfinished/bare; it only provides part numbers for wood wheels "painted" or "primed". Though there are no part numbers for different colored wheels, my guess is that parts departments just ordered the color you wanted from the factory.

I did happen across a correct original on ebay and I only paid probably 75 times what it was new!  :o

Well, I came across my a few items of interest. The POC '94-95 roster I found isnt one of them, its worthless. The POC 2000 roster isnt much better, though it does list vehicles by categories; several dozen Model Us are listed, but no FedCo numbers.

The Jan-Feb '94 (#204) Plymouth Bulletin had a really good write-up on the '29s. Mar-Apr 2003 (#259) had good stuff on Models Q and U.

Last month, I picked up the WPC News from Aug '81 that featured the Model Q and U on eBay for $6. It was worth it, pretty decent edition. Anything good on our cars isnt that easy to find.

What about bodies? Mine is a Hayes, what about you guys'?

Even though I dont know what the harm would be, especially after this long, I guess I would check with the POC first.

I thought NAPA could help, but just like every other place, it REALLY depends on who is behind the counter. Some kid who had never even heard of a friggin' VALIANT was "working".

Now, I dont fault people who dont know or are just starting out or are at least TRYING and when I was a counterman at the Chrysler/Plymouth store last century, I sure didnt know it all. BUT, if I had no idea about something, I FOUND a co-worker who DID! I get frustrated with this new generation of counter "help" who cant even tell you which shelf the Sea-Foam is on!

BTW-- The pumpkin has developed a very small and slow leak, about the size of nickel after a week. But thats only because I didnt use a gasket on the cover, just a nice 1/8" bead of the copper-colored RTV around the perimeter. My bad.

Does anyone have an original cover that they could post a couple pics of? I want to fabricate one or find one that is as close to original as possible. Thanks...
