General Discussion / Oil
June 01, 2015, 02:21:02 PM
I have settled on 20/50 wt. with some addition of oil treatment to help with oil consumption.

The old gal uses about a qt. every 150 miles.

What have you guys found works best as far as oil weight and consumption is concerned?

General Discussion / Oil Usage
January 16, 2015, 08:41:44 PM
My car doesn't smoke, but pushes about a quart of oil about every 200 miles or so.

What kind of oil usage are you experiencing?

General Discussion / Clum Light Switch
January 06, 2015, 09:22:06 PM
I am going with my friend to look at a '29 4 door.

Did the '29 still use the Clum switch on the bottom of the steering column or a switch on the dash?

General Discussion / History Search
December 30, 2014, 06:55:27 PM
I am trying to find as much history as I can on my '28 Business Coupe. I have the orininal FedCo numper.

I contacted Chrysler (now FCI) Historical Services but they said quote;
"Unfortunately, our build records for 1928 Plymouth model year are incomplete.  We do not have the build record for your vehicle in our files.  These records were never transferred to the archives and do not exist within the company."

Does anyone where I can look for more information?

Thank you,

Just had my wiper motor re-built and need to know if the vacuum tubing from the manifold to the motor is copper all the way?

Also what size tubing is it?

My '28 showed 59-60 lbs across all 4.

Sounds good to me.

Any comments or opinions?

Thanks,

I plan on re-greasing the wheel bearings soon.

Does anyone know if the hubcaps are used to lube the bearings?

General Discussion / Door Stop Straps
June 21, 2014, 02:23:05 AM
The door stops that prevent the doors from opening too wide and springing the hinges are missing. Kinda looks like maybe some sort of stiff strap material that goes from the door to the body. Hope my description is understandable.

I tried using belt leather, but it is not stiff enough to work properly.

Has anyone replaced theirs? If so what material did you use?

Any info. would be great.

Thank you,

General Discussion / '28 Rear Main Seal
April 28, 2014, 04:46:21 PM
Oil is dripping from the drain hole at the bottom of the bell housing. It leaks about a Quart every 100/150 miles.

I tightened down the pressure adjustment at last oil change. Perhaps too much. I run a steady 20 lbs. oil pressure.

I think the rear mail seal needs new.

I was told that I might be able to change it out by dropping the pan. He referred to the seal as a "dog turd", and I may be to change it that way.

Am I headed in the right direction?

Any comments and further information is appreciated.

Thanx.

General Discussion / Spark Plugs
April 11, 2014, 01:28:35 AM
At least two of the AC C77L plugs in my'28 are shot and not made anymore.

I have a set of AutoLite 3036. They fit, but the reach is about 1/8" shorter.

Is anyone using these plugs?

What plugs are you using?

Thanx

General Discussion / Wiring Question
March 30, 2014, 02:57:28 PM
I am rewiring my '28 and need a question answered. Sometimes I get confused by wiring.

Got it all done. Except I have a question about how and where to attach the wire from the ignition switch on to the distributer.

Does it attach to the same screw used to connect the coil into the distributer?

General Discussion / License Plate Brackets
January 16, 2014, 07:56:55 PM
I have seen pictures of the front license plate mounted on the bumper and some showing it hanging from the headlight bar.

I would like to hang the license plate between the headlights, from the headlight cross bar.

Some of you have it that way. What did you use for brackets?

General Discussion / 8 Volt (contd)
January 11, 2014, 01:04:49 PM
This is my last post from the 8 Volt thread. Just in case some folks missed page 2.
SteveG

Here are the readings I'm getting, with a fully charged 8 volt battery, from the relay to ground.

Low idle - contacts are open - 7.9 volts
High idle - contacts are closed - 8.5 volts

My concern is that the relay will continue to be closed while driving, and maybe over charging the battery.

My generator is rebuilt and the came with a Delco relay. The windings may be burnt because they are blue. Maybe it is a regulator/relay?

Maybe this relay may work. It states 6-12-24 volt. Anybody know?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Farmall-6-Volt-D100-Cut-Out-Relay-for-A-B-C-H-M-CUB-SUPERS-w-3-Brush-GENERATOR-/261211390220

What do you think about the above readings I took?

Thank you.
