Remember the State of MN referenced a book to re-title my sedan as a '29.  The name of it is Standard Catalog of American Automobiles 1805-1942.   I just received a paperback copy through amazon for about $24 including shipping.  It is the 3rd edition, 1996, published by Krause Publications, Iola, WI.  1600+ pages and a wealth of information.

Yes Frank,

I have that book also.  The Plymouth section was written by Jim Benjaminson.   :)
Maybe I will try that when I go to get my final title inspection after the restoration is completed.  So far they have not been willing to change any of the old title info.  I think if my Fedco number was in better shape it might be an easier sell.

John,

Thanks for the info, I sent an email to Dave for some conformation on the measurements.

Frank,

Also thanks much, but what is the reference to: (platypus)  Is that the nickname for your car ?

Chet disregard previous post - that is rear window!

Side window, I have 3".   I'd still poll John, Dave

Frank, The rear side window is what I was asking about.  In that picture is the dimension 2.5" or 3" ?

I'll wait for additional responses.  Your interior looks pretty original to me.  Very much the same as mine.

Driver's Side Upper Roof Frame

Due to the length of this task and the number of pictures I posted a link to the blow by blow description below:

General Discussion / Could use some help

Does anyone have pictures of the rear and front sections of the 29Plymouth roof looking from inside the car with or without the headliner.  I have some but nothing that shows the area over the rear window or front windshield in any kind of detail.

I am trying to make a few decisions on the reconstruction of the 29 4-door sedan roof.  From the rear section's metal skin there is a definite left to right curvature to the roof.   In most pictures the roof looks pretty flat but looking at the front metal form of the cowl, it does have a slight arc to it.  Can anyone confirm whether the front section of the roof is at a slight arc or does it lay completely flat in reference to the windshield sun visor.

As you probably know already there was no original roof wood left on my car.  I have plenty of pictures of original roof construction but I am still flying blind.  Any help would be appreciated.

Please keep us informed on what you find, it may help the next guy down the road.  If you are a POC forum member you might want to contact Tod Fitch on the POC web Forum or if you are a POC member contact the Tech Adviser concerning your modal year.

Good luck, Chet...

Hi Chris,

I looked at your picture from my laptop and it appears that your hinges are badly worm.  Have you found any replacements or are you planning to have something fabricated ?

Chris,

I am not familiar with your body style and I believe it is an all steel body.  Much different than the car I am working on.  Sorry maybe someone else can help with your problem.  As a suggestion you might want to remove the panel under the dash to see what may be happening with your spinning bolts.

Sorry Chet...

Chris,

I am currently working in this area. I have a 29 Plymouth but if you have the older style 30U I can probably help you. Please post a picture of your hinge pillar. The screws you are talking about are probably machine screws with nuts behind the wood pillar.

General Discussion / Dashboard FYI
July 17, 2017, 04:21:02 PM
Dashboard Warning for 28-30 Plymouths.

On my 29 the 6 Dashboard slotted screws that hold the dash in place are an obsolete screw size.  They are round head screws with a thread size of 1/4-24TPI.  Modern machine screw sizes are 1/4-20 and 1/4-28.  The 1/4-24 isn't used anymore especially in a round head with a diameter of 0.567 (approx. 9/16)  and a head height of 0.150 (approx. 5/32)  If you work in this area try not to damage these screws because they are not readily available.  I believe the tap and die may still be available if you have your own metal lathe.

Classic Exotic has 1/4 24 screws but not the correct head size:
