Hi Kim, I will look for you in Tucson, I should recognize the car anyhow.  I hope to get my 39 Roadking out of the  snow banks in time to take it down, but I will be there anyhow.  I like your "Ole Toys" on top your cupboard. You are getting right along with the top repair, you should probable stay home from Tucson and work on it. lol
Take care

Ted, on my 29 Coupe?  I turn on the ignition, pull out the retard knob, pull out the choke, crank for about 3-4 seconds and it is always running.  Then push in the retard and choke as required to keep it running, for a little bit.  Being I don't have a heater I have never tried to start it after the snow flys.

Old Man, you and your spouse have my sympathy.  I understand the troubles Arthritis cause, you have the worst, take it easy and take care of her, she is special. And good luck with getting your trip in, sometimes we need to stop and "Smell the Roses" along the way. This is also a good place to vent sometimes, I have done the same.  Take care of you

Ian, the web site you should be using is Tod Fitchs.   WWW.ply33.com  , The amount of info he has is  great, you may find most of your answers there.  If you haven't tried that site, you should.  Hope this works out for you.
I don't think the cam needs to come out, The guides should be able to be pulled out. You should be able to make a puller (and installer) with not much trouble with maybe readybolt, ect.. When you start removing spring keepers, be sure to plug the oil drain holes below the valve springs, to keep the keeper out of the oil pan. Check with Tony, he probable has most of the intel you need.
Good luck,

Old Man, you are not that old. A person is only as old as he lets him/herself believe they are.  I will be 72 in a few days, and think of myself as early 50s. (maybe don't look it but feel it) Luckily do not take any medications (yet - cross my fingers) I keep doing hobby stuff and traveling around as much as possible visiting old friends and relatives. I do not do some of the things I used to do, as water skiing, riding snowmobiles, stock cars, demo derbies. etc. Can't take the chance of hurting myself, at my age. lol  These are both the "Golden Years" and the "Rusty Years",  My joints are getting stiff and don't want to move very easy (that part is the rust I guess) I just move a bit slower and I get along fine. I do miss the friends and relatives that have gone before, but I will see them again down the road, and Always remember the times we had when they were here.  Don't be feared of old age, everybody gets it. I didn't start the old cars hobby until I retired, seem I was always "to busy" making a living.  This hobby fits my life style better, not as fast or as hectic, I'm just " taken it easy"  See you all at Tucson.
Take care of you all.

Hey Chet, retirement is a state of mind (I think). You just have to prioritize where and what you can do or want to do. Cut out a bit for the things you used to do, figure out cheaper ways to do things. Get back to the way things were in years past, you know... like helping friends and them helping you, saves a lot of cash for both sides. Get all the children out on their own and get a two bedroom house for you and your spouse, so they can visit but not move back in. lol  Mine want to keep moving back in  I guess I probable did the same thing............ Takes a little to figure it all out but worth it. Hope to meet a bunch of new friends in Tucson, really looking forward to it.  Besides, this morning at 8 AM it was -10 degrees and we have about 2 feet of hard snow and 2 feet of Ice on the lake yet, most of my family take their first dip in the lake on Easter, it is usually very cold... This year it might still be very hard, and it is supposed to be spring. Maybe it is spring to Tucson.............
Take  care

I'm sure you have checked this, Ian. so maybe nobody thought to mention it.  Spark Plugs (sometimes even a new one could miss) are normally the primary cause for an intermitant or erratic miss. They can play mean tricks on you, from a cylinder oil fouling to a electrical leak through the plug insulator. Otherwise I would agree with Tony, Plug wire problem. Wish you the best luck on finding this problem.

Is there anybody on this site that is going to Tucson in April for the National Meet? Have you got a convoy? I plan on driving the 39 down from Eastern SD, anyone I can hook up with?

Hey 1930, I typed in rod bearings and got a list of what you want.  The best one think is (Engine Rebuild info on my 29 Ply "U"  by 29plycoop , in 2009 I think it was.) He broke it down to cost, etc.  \

Looking good Kim, keep it up.  I just got to thinking, Can you imagine the workers that "Originally" built the framework for these cars, and the metal workers, to make it all fit so perfectly.  I would have loved to watch (and maybe learn from them) them on how to do this. Amazing people, Our forefathers. Probable with all hand tools too.  Just a thought, if you haven't thought of this before.  Drill holes for dowels to help "pin" the wood all together, probable be able to use some pretty good sized dowel in some places.

It is amazing what will pop up on this board. Great pictures old man, also, I really like your take (insight) on Plymouth items. You always seem to know and understand every item posted here. Great Job. Were you once an "Old Man" that worked at the factories when these cars were built? Take care or you

GOOD JOB Kim, looking great.  The Fiberglass cloth will work fine with the Poly you are using, if you think some areas might be a bit weak (from lose of the wood continuity) and need re-enforcing.  Looks good, good luck.

General Discussion / Re: Klaxon Horn Maintenance
February 17, 2013, 11:06:20 AM
My 29 Coupe has the Klaxon horn, (I always thought it was a Klaxon anyway).  It does not go "Ahh-Ooo-Gha".  Is that the right sound? Or is something wrong with my horn.  I always thought the " Ahh-Ooo-Gha" type horn was only on the Ford Products?  I always thought the "Ahh-Ooo-Gha" horn was run with a motor inside? Could someone post a picture of their "Ahh-Ooo-Gha" horn, and what info is on the horn? Maybe mine had been changed in the past? Maybe mine just need this maintenance.? I'll try get to my 29 model and check the same.
Thanks

Sure enough sorry about your misfortune. Some times life is a B***h.  Thanks for the insight, my 29 has had a slight rattle I haven't found, this may be a reminder to get mine taken apart before the same happens to me. I have had the pan off, checked all the mains and rod brgs, and anything else I could see, looking up, with oil dripping in my face. I have put on quite a few miles, but trying not to push very hard, just keeping my fingers crossed and praying a lot.  (but it runs so nice) Thanks again. Beautiful car.....
