Our car doesn't have one the negative battery cable goes to a transmission bolt and the frame has a cable to the engine.
I don't see how that contraption would work very well with the link being able to pivot.
Maybe I should put it on anyway so it would at least look more original. Anyone have a picture?
Engine stabilizer / torque spring . mounts on head bolt link to cowl .
Here's a picture.stabilizer.jpg

Better explanation. Thanks Tom
It can't act as a ground. It has a rubber component that absorbs vibration in addition to working as a stabilizer. The engine should be grounded with wires from the bell housing to the frame.

I stand corrected. :)
I did not know much about them but saw this pic before and the rubber component .
I see where ours was mounted many many moons ago. They put the starter solenoid (our car has key start) in the way of the link. Three of the holes are empty and painted over and the forth has the wire clip shown in the picture attached to the screw.
I would like to hide the solenoid either under the dash or floorboard and install the torque damper where it belongs.
I have toyed with the idea of trying to find all the parts and put the starter button back on the floor but the key start was a pretty handy invention.
