I have found that having more water (distilled) than coolant solved my occasional overheating problem.  70/30 or 60/40 ratio (more distilled water).

Tom Hannaford at Then and Now machines them...I bought one and fixed my timing issue mystery last year.

General Discussion / Re: Wire wheel color

I believe swamp holly orange was a popular wire wheel color.  If yours were originally yellow, I'd stick with that.

This morning and currently on eBay with a $16,500 starting bid and a Buy it Now for $150k.  Someone's been on the crack pipe too long!

John - I had mine powder coated black a few years ago when I replaced my tires, tubes, etc.  I have seen both in many photos when I was researching the same subject.  I have an old photo of a '29 Roadster coming off the assembly line (it's been posted here before and the photo is out on the internet) and the wheels are clearly black and not the cadmium/silver color.  I'm sure it doesn't matter what color you choose.  I also went with black wall tires, also like the car in the photo and is probably what came with and most appropriate for the early Plymouths.

General Discussion / Hairline Crack in Exhaust Manifold
November 02, 2015, 10:54:35 AM
Although car is running good these days (knock on wood!), I just noticed a hairline crack in my exhaust manifold above the intake just yesterday.  Also, the usual "hot spot" between the intake and exhaust appears to be getting hot again.  Have not noticed any real sounds from the leak or performance issues just yet.  I'm thinking of trying to temporarily repair the crack with some type of high temperature exhaust cement, not JB Weld (apparently, that doesn't take the heat too well), and see how long that works before I take it off and take it somewhere to get repaired.

I'm attaching a photo that show the crack...any thoughts, ideas, experiences with this?

General Discussion / Re: Optima 6V Battery

I forgot to mention that I use a trickle charger as well, but I think the battery may be bad.  I've had them last a few years before this most recent one.

Thanks...

I currently use a 6v farm and tractor battery from Advance and since it's still under it's free replacement warranty, I think I'll go try another one.  I can't remember what size cables I currently have, but they're 1 or 2 gauge. After the warranty runs out on the next battery, I'm may try the Optima.

General Discussion / Optima 6V Battery

Does anyone use or thought about using an Optima 6V battery?  They are rated at 800 CCA and 1000 CA...they've got to be better than the "normal" 6V batteries out there.

Thoughts?

The phone recording makes it sound rough.  It really sounds good and runs smooth in person.  There is an occasional buzzing/rattling at some rpms due to the throttle linkage next to the firewall.   I don't notice anything else.  Motor was redone in the '80's.
