Title: Door Handles
Post by: chetbrz on May 11, 2020, 02:11:37 PM
I got my door/window handles today.  They look great but I have a question.

I think the pin hole for the door release handles is drilled in the wrong spot.  I thought it was inline with the handle not 90 degrees off center ?
see picture:

Other than that they look great:

Any Comments ?

I don't have the original  handles off my car handy now but I checked a can of miscellaneous handles and they are all drilled both ways.   Could you let me know the contact information for the handles as I want to order some.

Chet, here is what I think mine looked like.  Granted these are obviously old ones and door handle hole is difficult to see, but I believe ok.  frank

Frank,

For the door release handle does the picture below show the proper pin direction.  I am not questioning the window crank handles.  It appears from your picture the pin orientation is as the red arrows show.  In line with the handle like Russ T Fender's picture

Yep, Chet, you're right.  I can't get a better memory, but I can wear my new glasses.

If you look closely at my picture the handle is cross drilled.  Sorry the picture wasn't clearer.

Well I spent some time on the phone with Dave and I think cross drilled is the answer.  Here is why.

With the 4 door sedan the front doors = handle up to lock and down to open where as the rear doors are down to lock and up to open.  The handles were probably cross drilled to work in either orientation.

I think pinned in the direction of the handle for the front doors and pinned 90 degrees offset for the rear doors to allow for easy opening while trying to exit the rear seat.  Let you know for sure once I go to install these.

You learn something everyday.  Chet...
