Title: Radiator Hoses
Post by: racertb on May 22, 2019, 07:39:47 PM
All:

Looking for radiator hoses, preferably all black and wrapped.  Looked at Restoration Supply and it looks like only all red in the 2 1/8 ID size (I assume right size).  Any other sources?

Thanks!

Ted

Hi Ted,

I bought Black hoses from Napa.  There was a small white ribbon on the hose that I installed in an out of sight down position after painting with flat black.

FYI... I used 2" hose.  2 1//8 is a hair to big.

Chet...

I just bought it on amazon and cut to length the pieces I needed. I think I used the 2 1/8th without issue. Pointed the white marking down and toward the block not be seen. Stock clamps won't reach.

Thanks Dave... I thought John Fain mentioned 2 1/8" at one point but Chet said 2" would work. I guess I will have to just take mine off anyway and see what might work best. Thanks for the Amazon lead.

Ted,

My car had 2 1/8 on it but after I installed the motor I had leeks. After that I went with the 2".  I think it might be harder to install the top hose using the 2"  vs 2 1/8 without unbolting the radiator top bolt.

The actual OD of the gooseneck is 2 1/8" so 2 1/8 hose seems correct.

I just took off the top hose which had been on there for a while. I cut it open in the middle and it looked like it measured 2 in inside diameter. I measured the gooseneck and it sure was 2 1/8 outside diameter.   It looks like it would be a tight fit if I try to go with 2 inches. I also have the correct 2 wire hose clamps that I'm going to use after this install. I will keep you all posted.

Quick update.  Finally did the top hose 2 1/8 a  few weeks ago and it went on well.  However, it did seep a little although the two wire clamps were tight.  Drove the car about 15 miles this past weekend and all seems well so far. No leaks or seeping.  Keeping fingers crossed for now.  Will most likely keep the lower hoses in tact for now and just change out the clamps to the two wire type.

Let me know what size clamp you buy. I bought 2" clamps from Restoration Hardware  and they are to small.  I thought they would be rated like a 2" clamp goes with a 2" hose but no.  I think they only had one size larger.  Anyway let me know what works.

Hey Chet, I got the clamps a while ago from Frank who had some.  I'm going to guess that they were 2 1/4 or 2 1/2",  but I'd have to go look and measure them. I know I have them as tight as I can go and I even had to trim down the screw since it seems to be sticking way out. Right now everything is tight and looks good. I can certainly measure for you if you would like when I go out in the garage tonight or tomorrow.

Ted,  I think you are right, 2.25 or 2.5 will work. This would allow for the hose thickness.
