Title: Hub Nut Question
Post by: chetbrz on October 29, 2021, 10:56:39 AM
Does anyone know where to purchase the nuts that hold the brake drum to the wood wheel.

They are 3/8 X 16 and are about 1/4" thick and oversized.  The standard 3/8 x 16 nut uses a 9/16 socket these hub nuts are 3/8 x 16 and use an 11/16 socket.  Two sizes bigger ?  Are these Jam Nuts ?

Try Langs Old Car Parts 1 800-872-7871.  I believe they are the same as the nuts for Model T hub bolts.

Thanks they certainly look the same in the pictures.  I found Stainless Steel carriage bolts that are the correct size also I was looking at Grade 5 Flanged Hex Nuts.  These are the same surface area and wouldn't need to be peened over to lock in place.

I will ask the wheelwright what he thinks when I see him.

If not the T bolts are another option if the correct size ?.

The T bolts if the correct size may be a better match.

Do searches on " Extra Wide  and/or Jam Hex Nuts . The over sizing of nut was common as harden to grade was more expensive . DB had some of there own hardware made and marked to get quality they wanted .
