Things you are looking for. / bumper plates
« on: April 20, 2018, 03:24:42 AM »
I would like to buy 2 good "bumper plates" (picture attached).  The face on the ones I have is flat, not slightly curved like one I bought off the internet.  Thanks.  Kim Mc

General Discussion / Re: 1929 Weatherstrip - Questions

Hi Chet.  I have some pictures attached of my '29 coupe that may help you.  One picture shows the P-side door frame with windlass-type seal along the inside edge of the door opening.  This picture also shows the 4-piece garnish molding around the rear window.  Also note above the upper left corner of the rear window (L in picture) one of the two hangers for the roll-down type rear window shade.  I do not remember that there was any weatherstrip anywhere in the door jambs or door frame but I could be wrong about that.  The pictures don't show any evidence that a rubber seal was ever there however.  If I find a picture that clearly shows the hinge post and open door, I will send it along.  Kim

General Discussion / Re: plating on different parts...

Those parts on my car were once black as were the "retainer plates" on the front of the upper and lower chrome bars that hold those two bars in place.  Except for the chrome bars, I plan to have all of these parts powder coated black.  Has anyone else done this?

On the early Plymouths, like my '29, there seem to have been different plating coatings used on different parts.  I could use some help with this.

steel wheel rims:  cadmium   Did anything else receive cadmium plating?
bumpers:  chrome or nickel?  I've seen lots of chrome but an old timer told me they were nickel originally.  What is the consensus?
headlights and radiator cowl:  chrome?  My headlights are original (I believe) and chrome.  Same for radiator cowl?
door handles and window cranks:  nickel

Did I leave anything out?  Thanks for the help.  Kim

Thank you Rich.  Just sent payment for 2 cans and lids per your instruction.  I appreciate your efforts.  Thanks again.  Kim Mc

Hi Chet.  I came across these diagrams of the wood floor detail in my car that I did years ago.  I thought I sent these to you.  In case I did not, I am resending them.  The topic of floor wood restoration or replacement seems to come up occasionally and I thought these might be of help to those working on restoration of old Plymouths.  I am getting back to work on my '29 after some years building 3 later model cars.  Still enjoy reading and using the Forum posts.  kim mc

Hey Chet.  Thanks for taking the time to do this.  I think I can manage the fabrication from your very complete drawing.  Best, Kim Mc

Not a problem Chet.  I am in no hurry.  I have projects that need doing in my shop to last a second life-time.  I need to find someone here that can do my engine.  The "big name" shop wanted $5K to start!!  Won't be going there.  Have a very good holiday season.  And thanks.  Kim Mc

Yes, that would be great!  Flat pattern is fine (folded for mailing), maybe dotted lines to indicate location of bends.  Thanks a lot, Chet.  Kim Mc

Happy Holidays to you and your family too Chet.  And thank you especially for managing and maintaining this site.  It is really great to be able to exchange information with other early Plymouth owners.  Best regards, Kim Mc

Hey, thanks Chet for clearing that up.  Now I have to find the passenger side pan somewhere.  KMc

I have what I think is the passenger side "splash pan" that goes alongside the engine at the oil pan level in my '29 coupe (picture attached).  However, I just have the one and I have no idea what the piece on the other side looks like or even if there is one on the driver's side.  If one of you could send me a picture of the driver's side splash pan, I would appreciate it.  Then I can start looking for a replacement.  Thanks for the help.  Kim Mc
