General Discussion / Re: Wood Wheel Restoration

Yeah, ditto the replys above.  I need to do mine too.  How about a couple of paragraphs about exactly what you did and the steps you went through.  Nice job and thanks.  Kim Mc

Rusty; A little late with this reply but I have some pictures of the original interior of my '29 coupe with leather seats.  The fabric on the doors and headliner is worn and torn in some places but it should give you an idea of what was there.  If you want the pics, email me and I'll send them.  Thanks for all your posts....l'll be using your "lessons learned" as I start my restoration adventure.  Mc

Looks like you did a really 1st class job...I haven't seen too many touring cars...really a nice job.  I hope I can do as well on my '29 business coupe.  I may be emailing you here to ask some questions.  Like the picture.  Enjoy driving her around!  Kim Mc

"Fairmount Cleve" is the manufacturer of the wrenches according to the seller's info for stuff I've looked at.  I haven't researched this myself.  I do not know the manufacturers of the other tools in the kit.  I am attaching a picture of the rim jack on a rim off my '29...I don't know if it will provide you with enough detail.  There is no manufacturer's name on the piece, only a patent date and number.  It's a pretty substantial tool though (and an adventure learning how to use one!).  I'll try to recopy to document I sent you so that it is readable.  I had a hard time getting a readable hardcopy from the electronic version.  Hope this helps.  Kim

Hello.  The Plymouth Instruction Book (owner's manual) has a list of the tools provided with the car.  I'm attaching a copy of that page as well as a copy of the cover of the manual.  A reproduction of the manual is for sale on ebay by Lloydslit for $12 (item # 220596062144).  Also on ebay is a very large tool kit for sale by seller gold4044 (item # 170477416668).  If you watch ebay you can pick up various pieces of the tool kit from time to time.  Check out seller gold4044 other items too (jack, other tools).  I've also included a instruction sheet for the rim jack (wheel rim wrench on the list).  You will need one of these if you ever plan on changing a tire on one of the split rims.  Hope this helps and good luck.  Kim Mc

General Discussion / Re: photo request
April 20, 2010, 11:59:43 PM
Hello Rusty.  I have a '29 U business coupe that I am just beginning to restore.  It belonged to my great grandfather and has been stored for the last 53 years.  I was just looking at the throttle linkage off the steering column this afternoon before reading your photo request.  You can see that I have not yet cleaned things up but maybe the photo will help you anyway.  I do not know where the spring attaches (it's hanging along side of the starter).  The throttle linkage comes off the steering column just above the klum (?) switch and connects to a pivot point attached to the cooling water pipe that comes off the block.  I have been following your posts with interest because I will be encountering many of these same adventures soon.  Regards,  Kim

Gary; you are sure welcome.  I enjoyed looking at your pics too.  I'm getting ready to clean the frame and running gear.  What primer and black paint did you use and/or do you have a recommendation?  Thanks.  Kim

John: here's a closeup of the gasket on the cowl.  Not great but I hope it will help you.  Kim Mc

Hey, John.  I typed an entire reply and then it just disappeared out into the ether so I'm going to try again.  My great grandfather bought a '29 business coupe new that was passed down to me.  It's been in storage since I last drove it in '57.  I'm starting its restoration; it is mostly complete and I believe mostly original.  I am sending pictures of the gasket (your "lacing"?) along the cowl and radiator shell.  It is 3/4" wide and 1/8" thick (it may have been 3/16" at one time).  It has raised beads along the length of either side with a thinner strip in between.  The gaskets on the cowl and radiator shell are the same.  I will have to send a second picture in a separate reply.  If you would like additional pics let me know.  Hope this helps.  Kim Mc

Hey, Gary.  Don't know if this will be any help or not.  Slid under the old girl ('29 bus coupe) and took a couple of pictures.  I seem to have trouble posting pics because of the size limitation but I'll try.  There is one pic of the muffler hanger on the cross member just ahead of the differential.  The rear-most hanger is a strap that comes off the angle iron piece just ahead and above the gas tank.  You can see the fuel line in the picture.  I do not know if this was the original location.  Hope this helps.  Kim Mc

General Discussion / Changing a tire on my 29U coupe
March 20, 2010, 09:48:56 PM
I've never changed a tire on one of these old split rims.  I have the split rim tool but I don't know how to use it.  Also, I don't know the correct procedure to unmount the old tire and mount the replacement.  Are "how to" instructions available anywhere or can someone brief me on the correct procedure/process?  Thank you.  Kim Mc

General Discussion / radiator shell repair question
March 04, 2010, 12:55:49 PM
The metal edge of the radiator shell around the radiator fill hole has corroded away (picture attached).  Can someone advise me if this can be repaired and who might have the skills to make the repair?  Thanks guys.  Kim

Wonderful!  Nothing is ever easy, is it.  Thanks for your reply.  Guess I will leave this item for that time when I don't need the steering wheel and column for a while.  But I have plenty of other projects to work on with my car.  Thanks for the help.  Kim
