Has anyone had an oil pump rebuilt?

The shaft on my oil pump is worn and a bit rough.   I plan to clean up the shaft, bore out the housing and insert a thin wall bushing.  Has anyone tried this fix?  There seems to be enough meat in the housing to do it and I think the shaft will clean up with just a light cut but I would be a lot more comfortable if someone has done this successfully already.

Russ,

This sounds like a good plan.  I hope you have a good drill press, you want to ensure you are true to the original center point.  Can the shaft just be lightly sanded instead of cut ?  You can always install a bushing close to what you need and bore it out to accept the shaft.

I am going to try to polish the shaft first but it is pretty rough.  I certainly won't cut it if I can clean it up.  I have a Kondia milling machine to open up the housing.  I wouldn't even think of doing it on a drill press.

Sounds good.  The milling machine sounds great. You never know what folks have at there disposal.  :)
