General Discussion / Tools
June 13, 2011, 08:25:23 PM
Hello,  I have been studying what the original toolkits consisted of for our cars and have made alot of progress, as many of you may or may not know there has never been any original factory photos of the toolkits for any Chrysler produced vehicle before  1935 ( that I know of ) that has ever surfaced so any car owners  that fell prior to this date have taken the word of shady e-bay sellers whom don't care either way whether what they are selling is correct or not.
I believe also due to the fact that AACA judging not deducting points for missing tool-kits in past years has played a big part in auto enthusiasts not taking the extra step to making there cars complete and correct but as can already be seen major judging standards are changing in favor of cars with correct complete toolkits.
I have been able to cross reference the few part numbers for Plymouth that I do have with other known Chrysler vehicles part numbers from original kits and in this way I am able to determine what alot of these tools were that made up the Plymouth toolkits but I need some help.
I need  a copy of the model specific parts manual TOOLS SECTION  ( which has always been one single page thus far ) for all years of Plymouth cars 1928-1938 or so.
I have to set a cut-off or I will never complete this so I have tried to end at 38 but it would seem that there were some major changes in 36 so I may have to expand my studies a little to answer more questions.
I don't need the Master Parts Books tools section for a couple of reasons first and foremost the information has proven to be very inaccurate when compared to the year specific model specific information and secondly I have some of these copies already.
If anyone is willing to help please respond to this post or contact me via e-mail at jhason2@yahoo.com

Also if you own any other Chrysler produced make and have that makes specific parts book and would be willing to scan the tools page it would be greatly appreciated as well.
I have been doing this because no one else has and their are people that care enough about restoring their cars correctly but dont have the hours upon hours upon hours to try and research these kits themselves

Thanks for any consideration in this matter

Ok with 93 views  either no one cares or no one knows, curious to know which it is though so I can put it to rest and move on to a different thought. Anyone care to comment?

Interent issues still but now back for good hopefully, I have a list of questions and facts, mainly interested in 28-32 Plymouth but am only somewhat knowledgable with 28-30 Dodge so that is where whatever info I have comes from.
1-Dodge offered a standard and deluxe interior upgrade on their 29/30 Dodge DA model line which included ( amongst other items ) special upholstery and interior corner lamps in addition to the overhead dome lamp, the interior corner lamps are identical in appearance to the overhead dome light except miniature in size. ( I have a comeplete set if anyone is curious to see them ) Did Plymouth ever offer such things in their cars?

2-Dodge floor coverings consisted of rubber mat in the front ( with draft pads around pedals ) and carpet in the rear on the majority of their models did Plymouth also use the same?

3-I am curious as to what Plymouth used to hold the carpet down to the floor if it was used, Dodge used a two piece brass snap, one half was imbedded in carpet and the second half was screwed ( sometimes nailed depending on prod sequence I assume  ) into floorboard. I searched quite a few years for all the missing snaps for my car and finalyy learned that 29 Ford Vicky 29/30 Chevrolet and I am sure many others I am unaware of used the same retainers so it helped to broaden my search.

4- Rubber mat was held in place on Dodge via a special headed screw type gimick which I am at a loss of words to try and explain right now but again I can show pict. if anyone is interested.

5- Curious to know if Plymouth ever used the Fedco numbering tag on dash

6-Dodge models had option of Broadcloth ( which is my original interior ) mohair or leather, id Plymouth also offer these options to their customers?

7- Did Plymouth ever offer a Victoria model or any model that had an opera seating arrangement, maybe a model where as the two front seats or one of the seats folded up under the dash for easy entry to the rear.

8- Dodge used a metal box under the front sear to store the tool kits, did Plymouth have this metal tray or box under the front or rear seat.

Lots more but I suppose I should wait and see where we get with this, thanks again

The metal cover is readily avail aftermarket and although its kinda a stinky way to do it I suppose it would be easy enough to cut and resplice the wires back together once you got the sheathing back on them. If it were me and I made that mistake and was not so anal I would make a quick disconnect plug and hide it down in the frame rail so that it was easy to take apart later if I had to and it looked somewhat professional.
I have diagrams of the original sheathing if you are interested, technically one end had a taper if I remember right, the new stuff is not identical to original but real close.

The old lamp sockets are easy enough to repair, just heat up the soldered end until the tiny washer comes off the bakelite wire housing and then pull wire through. After that its just a matter of going in reverse with the new wire, cloth covered wire is of course easy enough to find.

These are little flaps of metal that sorta wrapped around the pipe, not real sure what there true job is to be honest, very simple to fabricate. I can post pict. if you like and can even send you a sketch thru the mail. My car is a 29/30 Dodge and they may not be exactely identical so you may want to see what someone else can do for you. Let me know if you would like further help with this.

I could be wrong and hoping someone will correct but but there is a good chance there is supposed to be a small detent spring on one edge that keeps it sorta in place or at least keeps a little pressure on it, at least that is what Dodge uses, I can post a pict. if anyone is interested.
Otherwise the desc is identical
