Car's alright ,the Old Man needs surgery.

Hi Old Man,

Just wanted to wish you the best of luck with the upcoming surgery.  Your statements aren't depressing they are a reinforcement that we all should make the most of the limited time we have whether young or old.   My sister-in-law was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer at age 52 just over 4 years ago (she is a nonsmoker).  It had metastasized to her brain and spine. When the doctors looked at her x-rays they couldn't believe that the 52 year old women in front of them was the patient and they couldn't believe that she could walk let alone dance with the illness she had.  After varies treatments from chemo, radiation, and numerous others I can't understand.., her cancers have shrunk and are stable.  During the last 4 years of treatment 2 years ago she walked into the living room to find her oldest son dead from a drug overdose weeks before his wedding.  The point being is that through out all this misery and sickness she wakes up every day thankful for the miracle of life.  She makes the best of every day she has.  I know this doesn't help much but it is just the other side of the proverbial coin.  Whenever I think things are going bad, I think of her.  She is my inspiration.

Good luck with the surgery, I'm 5 years behind you.

After we moved a month ago we are still unpacking and trying to enjoy the summer without working through it.  I haven't even uncovered the 29 since last year.  Still sitting on three wheels and a jack stand.  Took my 48 out once so far this summer.  I guess work may start on my car as the weather turns cooler.

300 Horse Power with chain drive.  What can I say that tops that.  Scarier then my 29 down hill hitting 50 with the wood wheels wobbling.

I agree with all, especially Ian's statement:

"But mainly to have consistent figures between all cylinders"

My 2 cents,  Chet...

You may have a problem with poor ground points and corroded connection points.  Each point can develop resistance and increase your total current draw.  You may have to consider checking all contact points starting with the headlights and working back to the battery.  If you find corroded connections just keep going until you repair them all.

8 seconds is a long time to wait if you have a direct short so this is why I am saying corrosion seems to make more sense,

My 2.5 cents,  Chet...

I remember a crude right angle bracket at the bottom of the B pillar and the ends of the wooden were mortise and tenon style. The bracket was laid into the pillar and into the floor so it did not protrude and the screws were flatheads countersunk into the steel.

That explanation fits my car to a tee.  I thought the right angle bracket might have been a repair but I guess that's how it was attached originally.

Great info Old Man,  Many Thanks...

Hi Jeff,

Welcome to the site.  I wish I could provide some assistance but my 29 is buried in the garage surrounded by boxes.  We are in the process of moving.  I am sure that someone will be able to answer your question or provide a better picture.   I am not sure exactly how the pillar attaches to the floor.  I seem to remember some type of bracket.  Of course my car has been molested by many over the past 80+ years.  See a picture below.

recertb,

I thought that you have confirmed that the distributor timing is changing.  ???  Is this still the issue ?

Ted, to eliminate confusion if someone wants to review what has been suggested and accomplished to date they would have to look in multiple threads.  Moving forward please do not start another thread on this topic.  Every time this is presented in a new thread it is considered a new problem and it's back to square one.   As you pointed out you have been fighting this for about a year.  During that time many things have been accomplished and eliminated.

I hope this makes sense to you. Tks, Chet...

Ski,

The assembly is still attached to the motor which is buried in a corner of my shed.  I did try to take pictures but found a better picture of the motor when I picked it up a few years back.  I have been saving it for my restoration.  Its a fresh rebuild.  If you need the front 30U/PA mount I will let it go along with the hardware and the good unused motor mount.

See picture below.

Thanks Chet, I appreciate that but I don't think this engine will accept the floating power mount due to it's lack of mounting bosses and holes as Old Man described. Every time I eliminate something it's not I get closer to finding out what it is. I am learning a lot about the whirlwind times WPC was going through during the late 20's- early 30's with the wide array of vehicles offered.

ski

None the less I will still try to locate these parts and post pictures of the engine they came off of.  Could be a day or two.

Cheers,  Chet...

No grinding but no floating power provision either.

ski

ski,  I will look around I probably still have the parts for the <floating power provision> the rebuilt new style U engine I have was mounted in a PA before I acquired it.  Give me a couple of days to see if I can find this stuff.  I generally don't throw anything out.

It looks like somebody has taken a grinder to the area under the pump? Ugh. There would normally be a "saddle" that has 2 vertical bolt holes in it to take the floating power mount. Then the rubber sandwich mount has 2 holes in it's other lower plate which bolt it to an "A" frame that supports the mount and the front of the engine and it's "legs" are bolted to the frame. I can't tell if those holes on the bottom are the original lower mounts or not. Memory not working. You have to wonder what possessd the person to cut 2 blades off the fan unless they broke of their own accord.

I have a rebuilt new style U motor which also had the A frame support which I removed and if memory serves me correct the engine still had the ability to be bolted up to the 29 front motor mount.  I believe Ski would be mounting this engine in the cut down 29 coupe.

Ski will the old style 29 front motor mount, bolt up to this engine ?

Sounds like great fun.   When you are finished you might have to take her to the salt flats.

Very Nice,  The engine will be fine for either parts or rebuild.  Are you keeping it as a strict 29 or will you use the PA transmission, fuel pump, water pump, ???

Nice project, keep us in the loop.  I hope to start working on mine this summer.
