General Discussion / Re: Just riding around

The ride was kind of a spur of the moment thing. The Ford hadn't been driven in a while, I like the Plymouth, better brakes. I got the Ford out and the old gas was really running ruff. Babe was standing their. Ilet her in just planning on going to the end of the driveway. Turned in to about an hour ride. My hands were full with chnging gears and working brakes. And I havn't showed Babe how to use the camera. Rode Babe and my wife over to the rc plane field today. And still didn't get a picture.

It's been cold hear this week in NC. but I couldn't help myself. I took the 30  A model Ford roadster out for a spin with my dog "Babe". Top down just riding around. Can't wait for it to warm up.

I been meaning to tell you also that on the early 30 frame is straight cross members, riveted together. What I can tell from pictures looks just like a 29.

I have been looking at the Plymouth and Ford today between doing my work and the big differance is the Plymouth has the gas tank in the back and the Ford is in the front, so Ford just stuck the rack on the frame. The Plymouth will have to have brackets that go around the back of the tank

29 and early 30 used the same wheels and drums. I don't know of any diffrenc in the frame. Later 30s went to a 5 bolt hub you could get wood or wire spoke.

When I got my 30U it had a tillotson on it. It is pointed the right way. Didn't have any filter on it. I made my own bracket to use a regular air filter. Works very well.

I have a 30 Model A roadster here with the trunk. It's mounting holes and brackets are no where close to fitting my Plymouth 30U. I am working on making my own trunk mount but paying the bills has gotten in the way of that.

Chet, did you get the motor mounts that go on the bell housing? I have looked at the pictures and you can see mine. Still has the pb ser#. I am not concerned about it. I would just like to know what happened That got it this way.
#114
I have thought of that. But why would someone stamp a pb ser# on a U block. I have looked all over and found no ansewers. Thats the real bad thing about these cars, They are so old anyone that new anything about them is gone
#115
Thanks Chet. I have read all of that. My frame ser# is an early 30U, with vacum pump, no water pump, demountabel wood spoke wheels rectangel back glass so on. the engine has a pb ser# but next to any pictures looks just like an early U, I haven't seen a late U in person. as far as that goes I haven't seen any other early plymouths in person. When I go to a car show around here I am the only one. And most people try to tell my this is an A model ford that must have the wrong grill on it. I get a big laugh cause I know they don't know. I have pictures from the last owner that pretty much proves this car has been this way a long time.
#116
I don't know. That is whatI was trying to find out when I first posted about it. The engin has been in the car for over 30 years. I can't trace it back any farther. The ser# starts with PB. The water pump is no problem to take of or put on one of these engins. the fule pump is a diffrent story. It looks like there should be a place in the block for the pump to go. I haven't seen one up close to tell.
#117
I went back and looked, In the Photo gallery the pictures are there
#118
My early 30U has a PB engin in it. I have posted pictures of it on here before asking about it. You can look at it nest to any other and can't tell the diffrence but it has a pb ser#, So I would say a pa would go right in

I have a report where two guys drove a 31 plymouth across country, Sanfranciscoe to New York im 5 days, this was in 31 or 32, I forget. if your engin was in good order before the tripe I wouldn't be to concerned. just check it out and change the oil. By the way great trip. I would like to do somthing like that.
