Things you are looking for. / Re: 29u hood hold down
September 02, 2024, 09:23:27 PM
I have been looking for a couple of them for 2 years. I have the spring & hook parts but one of my brackets has been replaced by one that doesn't let the hood close right and another is in pretty bad shape. I may attempt to make some one of these days. If you find a source let me know.

General Discussion / Re: Shut off valve
August 31, 2024, 11:23:22 PM
I think I may have fixed it. I couldn't find a way to take it apart without destroying it so I backed the nut off and wrapped some button hole thread my wife had around the shaft a few times. Put it back together and so far no leaks. I thought about putting a ball valve between the tank and the filter and plugging the old valve but that would have the filter & throttle linkage fighting for real estate. Thanks Tom for giving me that idea.

General Discussion / Shut off valve

Anyone know where I can find this shut off valve? I have tightened the packing nut and it still drips. It used to just drip when the valve was shut but now it seeps all the time.

General Discussion / Re: Brass Era Car Show

Great video and your coupe is really nice! It takes a lot of dedication to keep one of those brass era cars shined up and a unbelievable amount to get them in the condition those are in!

General Discussion / Brake light switch revisited
August 11, 2024, 05:27:15 PM
A while back I needed a brake light switch and bought a Allstar brand switch from Amazon that was a exact replacement. Problem was if you weren't stopping fast and using a lot of pressure it didn't work. Then a few months later it quit. I bought another one and it was the same. Then I found this one. It is really sensitive and just slowing down it turns on the lights. How long it will last remains to be seen but so far its great. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CN1HTMTM?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

I am late to comment on this but since none of us were around in 29 who's to say that the rigid line didn't cause problems back then? I would think that eventually it would crack at one of the fittings from the vibration.

I have been a little worried ever since I put the original honeycomb radiator in as to how it would do in the heat. I have added water several times and it spit some out when it expanded. This time I just made sure I could see water and left it alone. It didn't loose a drop and there was no steam. I am crossing that concern off the list!

It was almost 100 degrees and the old girl did good!

Since there is a fairly big drag racing and burnout contest community down under there is surely a way those guys get their parts. Think outside of the antique car world and check with people who ship stuff there often. They also ship cars there just to race in the summer there (winter here) and do so by putting them in a container. I don't know what you are shipping but there has to be a way that's cost effective or they couldn't do it.

General Discussion / Rusty Fender rocks
April 15, 2024, 12:21:09 AM
Val (Rusty Fender) sent me a carb part off his spare carb that seems to always be broken to see if I can get it duplicated. I have never met him he lives halfway across the country. He has nothing but my word that he will get his part back. Without it his carb is pretty much worthless.  The people in this community are awesome.

Rant over go back to working on those old Plymouths and show us what you have done.

If you can do without it for a while and can get it off without ruining it I'll get it copied somehow. I haven't managed to get the broke one off without breaking it further. Today I a working on a air cleaner adaptor. Do you still have my address?

Quote from: Russ T. Fender on April 07, 2024, 01:24:27 PMI think I finally figured out resizing pictures.  This is the part I think you are looking for.  It could be fabricated but if you have access to a 3D printer it would be an easy fix.

That's it! My nephew has a 3D printer. I don't know how good he is at using it but I can find out. I also have a son that is a tool & die maker and sometimes he can get time to make me things at work. After going to watch the eclipse with friends I cobbled up some lines to see if I could get the vacuum tank pump to work. I hooked up a vacuum line to the intake but left the carb on the car hooked to the electric pump. Then I ran a hose to a gas can and another to a container and started the car. It was sucking gas out of the can and into the container in no time. No leaks! I think its going to work when I get the stuff in to hook it up right.

Here is as good as I can get of the accelerator pump linkage I stuck it back on with some tacky tape. The 2nd picture is of the piece that is broke off and the link that connects to the pump. For reference the rusty colored piece with the slot screw in it is the arm to the throttle linkage. I have ordered some fittings and am going to see if I can get the vacuum tank fuel pump to work. Is tubing 1/8" like goes to oil pressure gauge big enough for the vacuum line? You cannot view this attachment. You cannot view this attachment.

imoore I was told that there were more touring cars in Australia than here. The open car was loosing its popularity here but since the weather is more suited to them they were very popular down there.
