General Discussion / Re: Tire flap

Turns out I have been using the terms wrong.  A flap is 7 inch wide heavy duty rubber that holds the tube in the tire.  More for like trucks.  What I needed was a rim liner.  About 3 inch wide, thin rubber to prevent the tube from rubbing on the rim and popping from rust, etc.

I got a new flap from cooker tires.  How wide it is?  My new one is 7 inches wide and very heavy stiff rubber.  Wouldn't a one that is 3 inches work?  It only has to be protecting where the tube meets the steel rim.

I guess I will stay with dot 3.  I never had luck with a one man bleeder..  I always use a teenager as the brake pedel pumper. :)

Ok.  Mine was just a tad tighter than finger tight.

I have a question crazydave, what did you do for the shims?  Those look in bad shape.

Did you replace the bearings and races?  How hard was it to pull the races?

I live South Dakota.  I make trips to the twin cities a few times a year.  I will need to pull the seals and take them on my next trip.

I think the inner felt seal is bad. How hard was it to pull the axle shaft? It looks like my outer seal has been replaced.

I figure I will just place a order with Coker on Monday.  I need a bunch of tire stuff anyway.  I have a model A that I hot rodded that needs tires.  Thanks for the offer.

Once I removed the tire, the tube was stuck pretty badly to the rim.  Is there supposed to be a rubber flap between the tube and rim.?  Is so, I am missing mine.

I remove the wheel today to fix a flat..  Found that I have 4 loose spokes, gear oil is on the inside of the drum.  It looks like there is grease mixed gear oil.  There looks like a outer seal , grease seal.  Is there a inner oil seal?  Or does the wheel bearing ride in oil?  Where would I look for such seals?  Brake shoes are light coated in a grease/oil goo.  Never a easy simple job!

Do most people use dot 3 or dot 5 brake fluid ?  i thought if you use classic dot 3 brake fluid, you should change brake fluid every 3 years.   I will be honest, I never change fluid unless I am fixing a brake issue.

It sure looks that way.  Was the inside body metal painted or just primed?  Could the interior be painted black primer? Everything was painted, wood and metal.  My car has a new interior but untouched mechanics.

My roof wood looked dark, but I think it was age.  If I had to guess, not stained or painted.
