I have taken out my kingpins as I had a lot of movement of the spindle to axle.  www.rareparts.com  does nothing but old suspensions parts.  I had to mail mine off to them so they could match them.  I did get a call today that they could and will be mailing them off tomrroww.  I will let the forum know if they fit, which part number to order from them in the future but I do need a favor.  Could someone take a quick look at there kingpins to see if the bearing (1/2 inch thick) is on the top or bottom of the spindle.  I believe they were on the top of my spindle but now I doubt myself.  I did not take a photo.    thanks rusty

General Discussion / rear axle outer grease seal
October 04, 2009, 10:47:10 AM
I pulled the rear brakes backing plate off to clean as the grease seal is /was leaking.  I did not have brake fuild all over the brakes  ( like the front ones ) but grease.  I bet someone over filled the zerk for the outer wheel bearing.  The grease seal is a 80 year old leather and is missing some of the leather.  The seal seems to be two pieces of metal stamped together with the seal between them.  Has anyone replaced these?  rusty

General Discussion / split rim tool
September 30, 2009, 04:38:32 PM
I will need to get the tires off and am looking for a split rim tool.  Could someone post a photo of theirs?  Do they have three or only two legs that pry the tire off?  Do you need different sizes for different size rims or would any anitque tool work?  thanks

General Discussion / brake line hose
September 30, 2009, 09:43:16 AM
I need all new hoses as I could tear mine with my bare hands, yes, I have been working out.  I saw on chet's web site that he used new hoses.  Would you have the part number that is on the line by chance?

thanks.   I currently have the shoes off to be relined.

General Discussion / Re: missing electric parts

I have the levers on the steering wheel but I am missing the linkage that they control.  I can see that the levers would be easy to break.  How would get those levers off anyway?

General Discussion / brake drum
September 23, 2009, 09:51:21 PM
I am planning on removing the drums from the wood wheels.  I want to paint them (currently rusty) and have them lightly turned to true them up.  Is there any special problems in removing them?  Do I just unbolt them and remove?  The hub will not fall apart will it?  I do not want to have one of the those problems that I caused.  thanks

General Discussion / axle color
September 23, 2009, 02:48:48 AM
I am rebuilding the brakes which lead to needing new king pins which has lead to removing the front axle and taking to a machine shop to get it all apart.  Since it is now apart, it needs to be painted.  I would guess that the chassis was all black but was it gloss or semi gloss?

General Discussion / Re: missing electric parts

thanks.  I do not know why mine is missing but the rods should be easy to replace.  The bell crank would be the hard to locate part  but that, I have.  The photos help.

Is this correct?  One of the switches on the steering wheel  rotates and pulls a lever at the end of the steering gear which is connected by a rod to the bell crank on the side of the block which in turn pulls a lrod forward which pulls the on the linkage that is connected to the gas pedal as if the pedal is pushed down which then speeds up the engine.  I am missing most of this so this my best guess.  I am still working on the head light hi/low issue.

General Discussion / missing electric parts
September 20, 2009, 08:55:10 AM
I have been looking at photos of people engines and it appears I am missing things.  I have a bell crank on the passenger side of the engine but seem to be missing the linkage on either side.  I think I am also missing parts for the steeering wheel levers.  Could someone post a photo of the steering box area?  I have the levers on the center of the steering wheel but what they control is my problem?  thanks

General Discussion / it runs
September 18, 2009, 09:36:57 PM
I lost the key at the auction house and they have not sent it yet, so I hot wired her.  Not that hard.  I started right up.  I am not used to  20's era cars, they have a lot of noise, mainly tappets.  The oil pressure when to 60 psi then dropped to 30's once hot.  I have  no idea if rebuild but planning on pulling the pan this weekend.  I had filled the radiator up to the top of which it started to blow off the extra.  I only went a few miles as the lack of brakes (except parking) was a factor.  What temp should the radiator be at once hot?   I have a infrared temp gun that I plan on using.  If the rad was block, I would guess the temp would be higger??  rusty
