the first photo is how the valve was when I got the car. Does anyone know which way is correct.
I still have no oil pressure after 2 one minute cranking events. I was wondering if the relief valve was wrong, if that could do it.??

There is a hole on the body of the valve, does this have to go down? If you feel in the block, there is hole that seems to drain back down to the oil pan. Does this line up with the hole on the valve? Does it matter? rusty
the only thing I can find is:
1931 to 32 Normal Pressure should be between 30 and 40 pounds. Remove oil pressure relief valve cap at left side of crankcase. Remove lock wire and turn spring retainer inward for greater pressure.
In cases where the oil pressure is too low or no pressure shows at all, the relief valve should be cleaned and the oiling system thoroughly inspected before changing the regulator springs.
I will try to scan and send/attach a diagram to you. It shows a hole, but I don't have a year associated to it.
I main question I have is which way should be the tip of the valve assembly be pointing, Photo A or B

can't help with the plunger, but the pressure relief valve only lowers your pressure. so you probably still have another problem that you haven't found yet......
Photo A is correct. Also, it does not matter about the hole in question.
I would try a different pump, even if I had to borrow one.
