Hi Ted, Nice hearing from you. When you are finished with the Dodge truck shoot us a picture,

Hi Frank, Oh well, life has a way of getting in the way sometimes, hopefully things will calm down for you.  After all, just to many things to get after in the spring.  I'll have to drag out the GPS and check the speedometer after 93 years maybe not so accurate anymore.

Tom, I wish you good luck with the rod babbitt.  :(

Quote from: Russ T. Fender on May 23, 2022, 05:44:19 PMThirty five is a comfortable speed but over that the vibration from those fiber disc universal joints gets annoying.  I have driven a friends Plymouth that was retrofitted with modern universal joints and his car was comfortable at 45 and could easily run at 50.    I actually had mine up to 55 once (when I was a stupid kid of 18) just to see if it would do it.  I have no doubt that with a fresh engine these Plymouths are capable of the 70 mph they were supposed to be able to achieve, not that I would ever attempt that. I rarely go over 30 in any of my cars and try to pick my routes accordingly.  It's not always easy but worth the effort.  Life in the slow lane is good!

10-4 The 29 is happiest at 35mph.  My 48 I drive at 50/55.  Getting rid of the drive shaft disks for a car that is driven would be a great idea.  I get bored sitting around car shows after about 2 hours.  I have thought about doing that retrofit but for now we will stay stock.  I would like to try a POC National and see how it does.  Then after that who knows.

Tom, she can drive her car any time she likes.  Anything new happening with your motor ?

Russ T. By me mostly rural 2 lane roads that people fly down doing 55/70.  Still getting use to life in the slow lane.  For the most part, people appreciate seeing the car and are OK with a slight delay to their progress. Hopefully put some miles on her this summer.

This was the first opportunity I had to take the 29 out since I replaced the passenger side front wheel.  I was amazed that after sitting all winter the car started on the first crank.  Oil pressure came right back, and it was alive again.  The wife and I drove about 15 miles round trip to get some gas at a local station.  The ride was 100% better than before.., that old wheel must have been wobbling with the road surface.  The car finally felt solid.  :)

Nice day in the neighborhood...

Impressive amount of work you have scheduled in a short time frame.  Removing the flywheel and pressure plate my assumption is flywheel resurfacing, new clutch to go with the rebuilt flywheel, ring gear, and starter.  You should be able to find a machine shop that can resurface the flywheel and install the ring gear.  If you are rural, your auto parts store might still have a shop attached that can handle the flywheel.   How is your throw-out bearing?  I haven't found a solution for this item.  Is yours reusable?  Whatever solutions you come up with might help someone in the future.  Any pictures you can post would be nice, over the years things change with every repair or modification.

I hope everything works out to your plan.  Pictures of the local parade would be great!

Good Luck

I guess everything is working fine.  Dog sitting in Virginia hope to get the car out next week.  The new respoked front wheel installed beautifully.  Perfectly concentric and strong as it should be.

Now to work on nice to-do things and ongoing maintenance.

Quote from: ski on April 29, 2022, 10:52:46 AMHi Chet, My car is safely tucked away in the garage for now while I've been dealing with other projects and that thing called life. I've been spending half my time back east in Mass. where I'm building a house and the other half in Calif. Eventually I'll bring my '29 and a couple other cars back east where I have more room to get things done. I still check in every day to see what all you guys are up to. Lately I've been playing with early Dodge and Chrysler hemi engines. Hope all is well with you and yours Chet.

Wow you're a busy guy.  "...playing with early Dodge and Chrysler hemi engines..." that's a far cry from life in the slow lane with a 29ply.  You seem to have projects on both sides of the US, I wish you much success.  Great hearing from you.  Things on my end are going great, just getting older.

BTW - This forum has been running for the last 15 years and you have been there since that first year.  :)

Tks, Keep in touch, Chet...

Well, I finally got my front wheel back from Bill Calimer yesterday.  It took 5 months but as stated previously the work result is outstanding.  Now to paint it and reinstall the wheel.

Lately we have been experiencing Server Timeouts.  After investigating this problem, it doesn't seem to be associated with the new forum version.  It may possibly be heavy usage experienced by the hosting service.

I have made changes to picture thumbnail size which might cause pages to load slowly the first time they are loaded after this change.  This should decrease as time goes on.  I will continue to seek information on how best to keep this forum as current and operating as efficiently as possible.

Feel free to email me if you are experiencing connection problems.  If possible, a screen shot of the reported error code or message.

Tks, Chet...

Maybe someone else will provide some info.  I don't know the 30U but the 29 engine pipe is pretty simple.  One 90-degree bend and a slight offset.  That PA system.., could they send a picture of the parts maybe a little slicing and dicing could produce the needed parts.

Looking at the Master Parts List (April 1934).  The Q,U,& 30U all have different part numbers for the exhaust pipe.  The book states that the PA,PB,PC,PD exhaust pipe and muffler assembly are listed as a single part number for each. Don't know what that means ?

Try Kanter Auto Parts ( Kanter Auto Parts ) They show a kit for 1930 Plymouth.  I bought the 1929 kit from them 15 years ago.  Fine tuned it at a muffler shop.  The 1929 Plymouth Instruction Book shows a picture of the exhaust in the Lubrication Chart.  I don't have the 30U Book.

I hope this info helps you,

Chet...

I don't think anyone manufactures these washers.  I would save any ones you have.  I have looked for wave washers or waffle washers and really haven't found anything comparable.  If you are only missing a few you can substitute with any washer.  Most importantly castle nuts with carter pins are a must have.

A recommendation:  Whenever you grease the car check the driveshaft.

Good luck,  Chet...
