General Discussion / FEDCO Plate
March 17, 2016, 09:58:00 PM
Does anyone know if the FEDCO dash plate had black paint in the recessed area, or was the entire plate unpainted steel?
I am trying to clean mine up before repainting the dash.  I have started polishing the FEDCO plate.

General Discussion / Gas Gage Flange question
March 12, 2016, 09:13:18 PM
This is a picture of the gas gage flange on the gas tank of my 29 Plymouth when I bought it in 1973.  Since then I had to replace the tank and it has the gas gage flange that is wide and sits close to the tank.

Has anyone else ever seen a gas gage flange like the one shown?

Were the early Plymouth rims black or Cadmium plated?

If cadmium, what color would that look like?  Pewter?

The bracket on the center pillar is mortised flush with the floorboards.  The bolt head running through it apparently also serves as a pin of sorts that fits into a recessed hole in the bottom of the seat back - apparently to help keep the bottom of the seat back in place.

I am not sure what you mean by the B and C pillars.
On my 29P sedan, the metal bracket that secures the front door pillar to the floor boards in mortissed flush with the floor boards such that the floor mat lies evenly.  it is also mortised into the pillar it self in the inside.
The bracket in the rear that secures the rear door pillar to the floor is not mortised on mine.

General Discussion / Re: Generator not generating
November 16, 2015, 10:49:50 PM
When I installed a diode in my generator it worked well for a while but eventually burned out.  I contacted James Peterson and he advise me to use a voltage regulator with the diode.  After I did that, no problems.  James makes the voltage regulators and installs diodes in the cutout box.

Harkin Machine Shop did the babbit work on by 29U engine rebuild.  Their shop "has been turning out quality BABBITT work since 1906."  They are fast, fair and very good.  903 43rd Str NE, Watertown, SD  57201 Terry Harkin, Ph: 605-886-7880 Speak with Terry Harkin.

The 29U mains are babbit lined brass inserts.  They babbitted them and I had a local shop do the line bore and balance the crank and rods.  Harkin also did the rods for me.  I sent them the measurements and they finished them to an exact fit.  I have never been to the shop, all was done by mail.

I obtained new pistons, rings and ss valves from Egge.

After wrestling with problems with that center hot spot gasket (intake to exhaust) - I had the surfaces machined; and bought new gaskets numerous times of various materials, including copper over asbestos.  I kept a box of spare gaskets - still have them.  Finally I broke down and used high temp gasket maker/sealer from Permatex.  I have never had any problems since, and that has been over ten years now.

My 29 Sedan has 20 inch wheels and wood spokes.
I think they may have switch to 19 inch sometime in late 29.  My car was built in May 1929 I believe.

General Discussion / drip rails
March 04, 2015, 10:12:45 PM
Has anyone replaced their drip rails?  I bought a set of new Model A rails but they are straight and our Plymouth rails curve down at the end.
