I bought a fan belt from Pro Antique Auto. I cant get some of the slack out of the belt, is there an adjustment for the generator outside of the two bolts on the mount bracket? I seem to have it extended as high up as possible and there is still an inch of play on both sides of the belt. Did I get screwed with the wrong belt? >:(
The generator adjustment is the only adjustment for the 28Q-29U. You might need a smaller belt.

But mine is a 29U. Are the mount bracket/bolts the only means of tightening? I guess I need to take the new belt back out and compare it to the old-- which I should have done in the first place.
Figured out. The new belt is 5/8" thick, old belt 3/4". The new belt goes deeper into the pulley grooves making it too loose! Otherwise the size is correct.
Doug,
The 5/8 V belt should work fine if you get it a little smaller. You can find them in farm & garden centers that sell a lot of mowers.., Now-a-days they use these size belts for lawn mowers and tractors. The auto stores generally only have 1/2"

5/8 starting with 32 inch circumference. They run in 1" increments.
Got mine at NAPA, it is a tractor belt but it works.
I will do that, thanks guys. For the time being, I just put the original back on. And believe me, it looks like its original! Actually, aftermarket circa 1940s.
