General Discussion / Re: Roadster Door Hinges
« on: July 29, 2017, 05:31:48 PM »
On my 30U coupe which has no interior the hinge bolts go into a tapped hole with no nut behind them. If the picture attaches you can just see the threads on a bolt. However the hinge is different from the roadster hinge shown.

General Discussion / Re: 30-U Carter Carburetor Question

Form 1039 states that RTO8-130SA went into production in September 1929, superseding the 130S. The two units are alike except that a compensating air valve has been added to choking device in the later series.

Form 1065 also states that RTO8-156SR went into production on June 6, 1930, on serial number 1,521,181.

My Carter Form 1039 dated September, 1929 for the Plymouth models RTO8-130S and SA shows pump assembly part number 49-38S. My Carter Form 1065 dated July, 1930 for the Plymouth model RTO8-156SR shows pump assembly part number 49-38S.  This is the same part number for both and it is drawn as a short pump in both cases.

General Discussion / Re: 29 Vin number

Here is a photo of the engine number stamped on my 30 U frame rail. It is just in front of the brake hose on the drivers side, I chalked it for the DMV as it is very difficult to find otherwise. I have also found it stamped on the frame rail between the running board brackets on two 30 Ur's (stamped in both places on both cars). I hope this helps.

General Discussion / Re: oil pressure relief valve

can't help with the plunger, but the pressure relief valve only lowers your pressure. so you probably still have another problem that you haven't found yet......

the only thing I can find is:
1931 to 32  Normal Pressure should be between 30 and 40 pounds.  Remove oil pressure relief valve cap at left side of crankcase.  Remove lock wire and turn spring retainer inward for greater pressure.

In cases where the oil pressure is too low or no pressure shows at all, the relief valve should be cleaned and the oiling system thoroughly inspected before changing the regulator springs.

I will try to scan and send/attach a diagram to you. It shows a hole, but I don't have a year associated to it.

General Discussion / Re: steering gear control cover

Hopefully I am posting some good photos of the control levers from my 30U.  and I threw in a photo of the "welded frame" as well.

Hope this helps,

Hi Pat,
I bet you have wood wheels, and a cloth, not a leather interior. I have never seen the 4 before.

What does it say about your model type? and body color? date loaded or built? delivered to?

Thats about all the information you will get out of your build card besides body, motor number, and serial number.

General Discussion / Re: serial number

The photo shows the location of the engine number on the frame, it is hard to find and to read.

The engine number is on the left side frame rail stamped in the wheel well between the brake hose mounting and the shock mounting below the fender.  I have never seen the serial number for a 30U on a frame.

I have an old Plymouth mechanics manual that says for the Model U and 30 U the fuse is 20 Amps capacity
