Title: engine bay splash pans....
Post by: kimmc on November 20, 2017, 06:18:53 PM
I have what I think is the passenger side "splash pan" that goes alongside the engine at the oil pan level in my '29 coupe (picture attached).  However, I just have the one and I have no idea what the piece on the other side looks like or even if there is one on the driver's side.  If one of you could send me a picture of the driver's side splash pan, I would appreciate it.  Then I can start looking for a replacement.  Thanks for the help.  Kim Mc

You have the Driver's side splash pan.  The passenger side pan has the exhaust pipe running through it.  See mine below.

Do you have pic  of front tie between piece . That is one I am missing . My driver side is a different I think too . Will check . Same engine but on 31 Graham truck , whom I believed used Plymouth or Desoto frames .

Hey, thanks Chet for clearing that up.  Now I have to find the passenger side pan somewhere.  KMc

Tom,

Here is a shot of the driver's side.  Sorry I currently don't have access to get under the car.

Here is a view from the passenger side with flash.

The metal panel seems to be held in place by the front motor mount.

Thanks Chet . Looks like my pan is same . It does not have extra hole where exhaust goes threw . That pic of tie piece is enough for me to fab a piece between . Did not know about it going under motor mount .

Kim & Tom,

Since my motor is out I snapped a picture of the front support for the side gravel guards.  If you guys need.., once I get the piece cleaned up I could trace it so that you could make one on a sheet metal break.

It bolts under the front engine mount.

Yes, that would be great!  Flat pattern is fine (folded for mailing), maybe dotted lines to indicate location of bends.  Thanks a lot, Chet.  Kim Mc

Hopefully you guys are not in a rush, with the holidays and other distractions.., time is at a premium.  When I can catch a break I'll get this done.
Currently heading north to drop off my motor at J&M Machine.  https://www.jandm-machine.com/ (https://www.jandm-machine.com/)

Not a problem Chet.  I am in no hurry.  I have projects that need doing in my shop to last a second life-time.  I need to find someone here that can do my engine.  The "big name" shop wanted $5K to start!!  Won't be going there.  Have a very good holiday season.  And thanks.  Kim Mc

Yeah . no problem here either . Make sure your rebuilder puts the longer head stud in right spot , for horn mounting .

Tom, My horn mounts to the water intake casting on the side of the block not the head bolts.

My 29U was mounted like Tom's but with a Klaxon 14 horn,  I eventually found a Klaxon 12 and a bracket for the water inlet.

Kim & Tom,

I traced the front pan support.  The pictures below illustrate how I traced it.  The flat length of the material would be 17" long 16 gauge steel by 4.5"wide (actual measured 4 7/16" wide)

If you want I can make copies of the 8.5 x 14 document and send it to you.  Just email me your address.

If you can print an 8.5 X 14" document download the attached pdf file

Hey Chet.  Thanks for taking the time to do this.  I think I can manage the fabrication from your very complete drawing.  Best, Kim Mc

Congratulations on the birth of a new grand daughter, enjoy the baby sitting.  The weather here has chased me from the garage but today it is going into the 50's unfortunately I started an indoor room painting project so I will need to finish this up today.

Cheers, Chet...
