Does anyone have pictures of the rear and front sections of the 29Plymouth roof looking from inside the car with or without the headliner.  I have some but nothing that shows the area over the rear window or front windshield in any kind of detail.

I am trying to make a few decisions on the reconstruction of the 29 4-door sedan roof.  From the rear section's metal skin there is a definite left to right curvature to the roof.   In most pictures the roof looks pretty flat but looking at the front metal form of the cowl, it does have a slight arc to it.  Can anyone confirm whether the front section of the roof is at a slight arc or does it lay completely flat in reference to the windshield sun visor.

As you probably know already there was no original roof wood left on my car.  I have plenty of pictures of original roof construction but I am still flying blind.  Any help would be appreciated.

Chet, mine looks to be from 3 1/2 to 3 5/8".  You may want to get a number from John &/or Dave for something original.

Chet disregard previous post - that is rear window!

Side window, I have 3".   I'd still poll John, Dave

Frank, The rear side window is what I was asking about.  In that picture is the dimension 2.5" or 3" ?

I'll wait for additional responses.  Your interior looks pretty original to me.  Very much the same as mine.

Chet,
My car is probably not correct in that regard, I think when I rebuilt the roof in 1974 i but it a little too low because I cannot use the small winder handle for my windshield.   Having said all that, mine is curved slightly over the rear side windows, it is about 2 inches in the center but about 2+3/8 to 2+1/2 on the ends.  But, i think my headliner is about 1/2 inches too low.

John,

Thanks for the info, I sent an email to Dave for some conformation on the measurements.

Frank,

Also thanks much, but what is the reference to: (platypus)  Is that the nickname for your car ?

Chet...

Chet,  No not my car, but referencing the combination of a picture of Dave's and measurement from mine, platypus came to mind.  (It just seemed appropriate to put that in.)

Different subject.    Remember the State of MN referenced a book to re-title my sedan as a '29.  The name of it is Standard Catalog of American Automobiles 1805-1942.   I just received a paperback copy through amazon for about $24 including shipping.  It is the 3rd edition, 1996, published by Krause Publications, Iola, WI.  1600+ pages and a wealth of information.

Yes Frank,

I have that book also.  The Plymouth section was written by Jim Benjaminson.   :)
Maybe I will try that when I go to get my final title inspection after the restoration is completed.  So far they have not been willing to change any of the old title info.  I think if my Fedco number was in better shape it might be an easier sell.
