I am reinstalling the steering box and head light switch.  Could someone post a photo of the bracket of how the trottle lever connects to the bottom of the steering box.  I am missing all throttle levers.  It appears that the rods them self are 1/4 inch steel rod.  I have the pivot bracket that is in the middle of the linkage but not how they are connected to the steering lever rods.
thanks

Rusty, Here are some pics of my 30U. This is the later model with the fuel pump and the water pump, but not sure if that makes any difference. The first section of the hand throttle rod connects to the lever out the bottom of the column just prior to the light switch. I goes to the swivel  on the side of the engine. The second rod goes from there to the foot pedal connection. Note the spring and its connection. Mine as a movable spring connector on that rod. I have another rod that doesn't have that spring connector, presumably from a different year. If you have any other questions just post or contact me at chiefgr@hotmail.com

Will post more pics in next posts.

Just another pic of the mechanism.

Thanks for the quick reply.  Could you post some photos of the bottom of the steering box which the linkage is attached?  I noticed that you have modern U joint.  Did you convert that from fibro disks?  Did you have to get a new pinion that slid into the rear of the transmission?

Not sure what happened, but had a reply almost done and the screen went blank. Will try again.

Not sure how those pics got no this thread, the ones of the throttle linkage were what I thought I posted.

First to answer your question, Yes I converted my 30U to the modern U-joint. I took the discs out and bolted the spider yoke off the rear end directly to the front spider and parkinig brake assembly. They welded the new style U-joint and sliop spline to that yoke. THe rear spider yoke was replaced with a standard Spicer yoke which fit the existing pinion input shaft. I can't lay my hands on the part number right now but there is an article that will be in the next POC Bulletin. After I did this I found that the original discs are being reproduced and are available for $165.00 per set of 5. Contact Bill Broel Jr. at billnlana@hotmail.com. He has apparently been making them for a long time.

Anyway, here are some pics of the throttle linkage.

Another pic of linkage. Note the return spring attached to the rod going to the foot throttle mechanism. I have another rod without the spring connector piece, maybe from a different year.

Rusty

I hate to ask, but could you photo one more photo.  I am looking how the linkage is attached to the bottom of the steering box.  I have the middle pivot piece and it looks easy to make linkage from that to the gas pedal linkage.  The other end is where I am at a lost.

I also noticed that you starter is a mechanical linkage to hit the electrical contact on the starter itself. On my 29 U. there is a foot electrical switch, (not unlike a head high/low switch floor mounted) and then a 12 inch cable over to the starter.   Just interesting seeing changes years to years

I'll get under and get a pic for you.

Rusty,

The setup on the 29 might be a tad different then the 30U.  Unfortunately I can't send a picture currently my car and I are in two different states.  I could post one next weekend if no one else does.

Rusty, Here is the pic you requested, plus a couple more.

This is the best I could get on the car.

Gary 30U

Here is one that shows the view you would get looking as mounted on the car.

This one shows the engine side of the switch and level as mounted on the bottom of the column.

NOTE: I apparently held the camera upside down. Flip the pic over. Steering column actually comes from the left / not right.

Rusty

Thanks, that is what I needed.  I think a little time I could make a useable piece.  rusty

Hello Rusty.  I have a '29 U business coupe that I am just beginning to restore.  It belonged to my great grandfather and has been stored for the last 53 years.  I was just looking at the throttle linkage off the steering column this afternoon before reading your photo request.  You can see that I have not yet cleaned things up but maybe the photo will help you anyway.  I do not know where the spring attaches (it's hanging along side of the starter).  The throttle linkage comes off the steering column just above the klum (?) switch and connects to a pivot point attached to the cooling water pipe that comes off the block.  I have been following your posts with interest because I will be encountering many of these same adventures soon.  Regards,  Kim

If possible, once you have all that apart, please take a close up of the mounting .  No rush.  Engine not running, oil pressure issues.  rusty
