If any of you folks frequent FB marketplace there is a 30U sedan with lots of parts listed. I dont know how to post a link to FB but type in "1930 Plymouth model 30-u $7,500" to the search in the Fresno area (Madera) and it will come up. Its been listed quite a while.

General Discussion / Engine identification?
April 03, 2015, 09:36:09 AM
I went on a parts run last weekend and one of the things I picked up was a complete engine & trans that was said to be from a 1931 Plymouth.  I'm using it in a future roadster project I've been accumulating parts for.  Here's a pic of the engine with the engine number.  Anyone have any idea exactly what this is?

General Discussion / Parts run today
August 10, 2014, 08:43:31 PM
Although I've been hot and heavy back into my car after a 6 yr. break I had to clear it out of the garage to make room for a parts hulk I purchased. I wish I could have gotten the body with it but I got what I could. I had to rush to move a roller out of my driveway to make room for the coupe and clear the garage to survey the wreck. Added bonus was I drove my coupe for the first time ever to get it out in the street and turn it around.  I'm bushed but wanted to post a couple pics.  I only bought it for the wire wheels and hubs but got them cheaper by hauling the rest away.

General Discussion / Brake drums
August 30, 2008, 08:48:19 PM
I've got my master cylinder and front slave cylinders sorted out thanks to the tips I've got from Chet and the rest of you guys.  I ordered new brake lines the other day.  After trying to remove the rears and reading old posts here I am going to try to get a puller together after the long weekend.  When I removed the driver's side drum I noticed it was pretty grooved and worn.  Does anyone have specs on diamater and max. turning.  Are there replacements available?  I know an old school brake rebuilder that I'd bet can resurface them but I won't make it over there until Mon.  Anyone have any experience in this department?

General Discussion / Master cylinder disassembly?
August 22, 2008, 02:38:57 PM
The diagrams I have seem to show a snap ring or "piston stop lock wire" that must be removed to get the "piston stop?" out and then the piston and rest of the inner parts.   I can't see this wire from the push rod end of the cylinder.  Any tips?  Does the stop have to be depressed inward to uncover the lock wire?  I tapped on it gently after soaking it with penetrant but I don't want to damage the unit.  Any help is appreciated.

General Discussion / Wire spoked rims
February 16, 2008, 07:28:57 PM
Does anyone know if a 29U came with wire spoked rims?  Mine has wood spoked rims but I have a chance to get some wire spoked with good tires on them that are said to come from a 29 Plymouth.  I'd like to have wheels to put on the car when I restore the wood spokes.

General Discussion / Got my engine running
October 25, 2007, 03:01:55 PM
Well after working on the car sporadically Finally started the engine the other day. I had to put a new distributor cap on and sort out a few wires.  I moved the electric fuel pump from the canted floor board to the rear of the car near the fuel pickup using existing holes. I removed the non-functioning vacuum fuel pump and made a plate to mount the regulator to the existing mount location so I didn't have to make any new holes.  It fired up and sounded like it was going to come apart for a few seconds but then settled in and ran smooth.  I ran it for about 15 minutes. It had 35-40 PSI oil pressure.  I need to make some carb adjustments or maybe get a kit for it. I took it apart and cleaned out all the crud and water that was in it but that was it.  It's a Tillotson JR1A.  Anyone have any info on it?  I also picked up a new fan belt since the one on there looked like it was going to fly off at any time.  Here's a few pics.

General Discussion / Wood kits?
September 03, 2007, 01:10:05 PM
Does anyone know of an outfit that sells wood kits to replace the structural wood framing in a 29U coupe? The floor & trunk panels look easy and I was going to use marine plywood.  The curved pieces like under the trunk lid and behind the seam at the roof line may be a little tricky.  I was also wondering about the possibility of using metal.

General Discussion / Body number?
August 27, 2007, 12:59:44 AM
My 29 plymouth coupe is titled and registered under it's engine number.  I believe this to be incorrect but that's how it was and when I transfered title the DMV told me I could get it changed but it would be a bunch of paperwork so at the time I declined until I could do more research.  I have paperwork going back over 30 years with the engine number on titles and registrations.   The body number that is attached to the wood floor is 322-23704.  The engine number is U108771.  Are either of these the correct number to ID the car or should I look on the frame somewhere like on my old Dodge truck to find the correct VIN?  The main reason it's a concern is that none of the insurance companys I've talked to can identify the type car from those numbers and I'd like to insure it before my first test drive.

Thanks,
Sean

General Discussion / POSITIVE GROUND?
August 25, 2007, 05:56:17 PM
I briefly tied to start the 29 plymouth I recently purchased and quickly realized there was a ton of water in the fuel system.  I pilled the tank, the carb, the retrofitted elec. fuel pump and cleaned them all.  I pulled the battery out at the same time to charge it.  I've since realized that this is probably a positive ground system.  I didn't take notice when I pulled the battery but looking at the terminals (one being bigger than the other) it seems like the battery had been installed with negative to ground.  The car had cranked and I was getting spark to the points and the head lights worked. Would it still do that if the battery had been hooked up wrong?  I don't want to fry anthing when I hook the battery back up.  Any advice?

Thanks,
Sean

General Discussion / Newbie here
July 22, 2007, 02:30:01 AM
Hi evereyone, My name's ski and I'm in San Diego, CA.  I've been a MOPAR guy for years but all of my cars & trucks have been from 1956 -1970.  That was until yesterday when a 1929 Plymouth business coupe which I think is called a 1929 U followed me home and is now sitting in my driveway.  I didn't need another project but something told me to get this car.  I plan on getting it into the garage next week.  It needs a lot of work but I'm pretty sure I can get it in running shape fairly quick.  I'll be checking out all the prior posts and asking questions since I'm new to this era car.  First thing I'm going to do is get the brakes working.  Prior owner said they had recently been done but when I saw the empty brake reservoir I knew they would have to be gone through.  I soldered the pin hole in the bottom of the reservoir (more like a brake fluid can with a fitting on the bottom) today and will put it back on and fill it up tomorrow.  Someone told me about getting owner's manuals from a place called the "Free Philadelphia Library".  Anyone heard of this?  Anyway I'll post some better pictures of it tomorrow and will be asking annoying questions for a while until I sort the car out.
