You guys are dragging me back to my collage days.  I don't think the average Joe thought in these terms back in the day.  Interesting none the less.

I must admit I never favored DC generators even back in the day when cars came with them.  When they worked they worked fine but when you had a problem it was usually a head scratcher.  I don't think I can add anything new except that there was mention of a frayed wire.., I was wondering if this might have caused some other less noticeable damage to the generator.

Have you read the following:  Also a good read.

Good luck,  Chet...

It finally hit! We have very little snow but it was 0 F this morning. Brrrrrrrrrrrr. (That's 18 below for me.) I did a cursory snow blowing just to keep ahead of it. Have fun in Florida. My 94 year old mother in law is down there for the Winter. But she says it's raining a lot?

Your mother-in-law is right on the money.  It's pouring as I type but it is still a long way from the cold weather happening up north.

.... I don't think you have any snow either Chet? MY Skidoo days and cross country skiing are over anyways so I'd just as soon it remain this way 'til March. Happy New Year from Canada.

No snow just plenty of rain with temperatures in the 70s (22 Celsius) heading down to Florida soon to visit the grand kids. My daughter took the kids to the beach on Xmas,, different life style..

Enjoy the weather you can be sure a change is on the horizon.

Hi Old Man,

Great read concerning the battery and cutout switch.  Do you mind if I add your explanation to the Tech Section of this web.

General Discussion / Re: Optima 6V Battery

I use a good 6vdc Tractor battery from NAPA.   I have had them for a number of years without issues but do keep them on a maintenance charger over the winter.   I think the most important thing with these 6vdc systems is to ensure that you have the right battery wires to match the additional current needed in a 6vdc system to produce the same amount of work (watts).

Although I have not used the Optima many folks I know swear by them.

I have a Stewart Warner Vacuum pump that needs a rebuild that I planned to use if my Kingston pump failed to work properly.  The SW Pump I have came off a 30U Plymouth.  Model 210-L  Patented Feb 14th. 1911.  Probably not correct for factory originality ?? but definitely period for a good replacement part.

It should work just fine on the 29.  Although the problem you are having might be the carburetor's float check valve.

Steve,

Sorry to hear this.  Are you sure that the car can't be salvaged.

Hi Ted,

Did Tom get back to you, from what you have posted I think you can safely say the base fixed the problem.  Most of the running engines out there have replaced this base at some point although like your car there are still some survivors out there still running.

Congratulations !

LOL, I have the same problem with the camera.  Now I have an iPhone so I have no more excuses except for when I leave the phone home.

Hay Ted,

The engine seems to be running fine with a really nice clean engine compartment.  Does it drive OK, have you put on many miles ?  Maybe replacing the base did the trick.  Anyway money well spent.   I hope things continue to go well so you can post pictures of your outings.

Cheers, Chet...

Hi Frank,

Sounds like you had a good time on you test run and at the show.  BTW, anytime you can get home on your own power is a good drive.  The 28 Pontiac and the 29 Dodge sound very interesting, Any pictures?  Hopefully as far as your car is concerned the issue is only a fouled plug.  If you had a lot of contamination in your fuel system you might still have a little residual contamination so hopefully once the gas filter is changed the performance improves.  That begs the question do you filter the gas from the tank to the carb?

The wife and I have been enjoying the summer, I wasn't complaining.  But.., it truly amazes me how much we did in the past while working 40/50 hours per week.  It seems that we still can't catch up but maybe expectations are two high or maybe we are working at a slower pace.  Either way things are going just fine.
