Greetings All:
New to this particular forum, but have posted on others. Looking for feedback on what my plans are for putting on new tires and painting the rims. I will attach a photo of my car with it's current configutation. Tire size is 4.75/5.00x20 on wood spoke wheels.
1. Decided to go with black wall tires this time because I think they are more original and authentic. Looking at Lester, BF Goodrich and maybe even Firestone (a Model "A" tire?).
2. I believe I have decided to go with black rims as opposed to cadmium colored. I have seen it done both ways (both ways with a black wall tire). There is a photo I have (you may have seen it) with a '29 Roadster coming off the assembly line with this combination, although you can see that the spokes are painted and can bairly see the pin striping on the spokes.
Any thoughts, ideas, constructive criticism?
Thanks!
Ted

Thanks Chet!
Any thoughts on which color to go with on the rims? Any thoughts on tire brand?
Great looking car.
If I remember correctly the natural finished spokes DO NOT have stripping, only painted wheels.
My car was painted wheels with strips (not shown in this picture) and I powder coated the rims, hubs, and lugs black.
Just my thoughts,
Happy motoring, Gary

Gary - what kind of tires are you running?
Hi Ted,
I thought that originally the wood wheels were the same as the body color. I am not sure if that was true for the rims. Personally I like the natural wood look but I believe all the original wood wheels were painted. These are just my assumptions and not necessarily facts. You might want to check with the POC on this.
Chet...
I hope this helps.According to the POC Judging Guide,
Section G. WHEELS;
1. Only 1930-1933 (30-U-PD) wood wheels may be natural varnished.
2. Painted wood wheels must have stripe.

It would appear from this Bulletin that yes some colored cars did have the wood wheels the same color as the body, but when some colors were used the wheels were a different color.
I have another Service Bulletin dated Jan 8, 1929, which shows a much different list of colors, but it doesn't list the colors for wheels.
Not sure this helps, but that is all I can find right now.

The service bulletins for 1929 Plymouth list a Coupe, Buss. Coupe and a Deluxe Coupe. Can you describe what makes the difference in the three models? Thanks - Rich
Ted,
Please don't put Firestones on them, Mr. Chrysler would not like that, being Ford Model A tires! The original were Goodyear diamond tread, but impossible to get. Go with any good blackwall, but not Firestone!
John - great to hear from you!
Decided to go with the black wall Lester tires...just trying to decide if I want to go with the brass (with hardware) stem or rubber stem...
I replied in another one of my posts about how hard might it might be trying to get the felloe onto the rim with the brass stem fully secured in place. I assume it will be secured tightly under the rim with the nut and rim washer so there won't be much flexibility with it to install the felloe?
