It kind of sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders.  Does the plug in the cyl. that is squirting oil out of a hole look like it's been firing?  I'd do a compression check on the engine if you haven't already.  You may have gotten the distributor situation tightened up enough to run and are now seeing a separate problem. The play in your distributor looks concerning.  I just went out and check mine and there's virtually no play.

My plan is to use newer engine and tranny and save the 29U shortblock in the hulk as a spare for my other coupe. I'll use original rear end and parallel leaf front end with original wire spoked rims. No fenders. (unless I find a couple) The car will look like a depression era doodle bug of sorts.  I think this car was made into a pickup at one time.

Here it stashed in my backyard.  I picked up 4 sedan doors that I'll make coupe doors from.

Chet, the "roadster" is a cut down 29 coupe someone did years ago. I bought the chassis for parts and ended up with what was left of the body a few months later. The only reason I'm interested in specifics on the engine is because I'm curious that way and possibly it might be useful if I need parts. I'll definitely use it regardless. This is a far back, back burner project.

Yes, the "T" and the low number is what puzzles me. It has a water pump, mechanical fuel pump, and different hose connections than on my 29U coupe. The generator is mounted low since the water pump occupies the space it was on the earlier engines.  The shifter has what looks like maybe a reverse lock out lever?

General Discussion / Engine identification?

I went on a parts run last weekend and one of the things I picked up was a complete engine & trans that was said to be from a 1931 Plymouth.  I'm using it in a future roadster project I've been accumulating parts for.  Here's a pic of the engine with the engine number.  Anyone have any idea exactly what this is?

Mine are cotter pinned so I think as tight as the disc material can handle would be the limiting factor.  I snugged mine good and went to the next hole being careful.

I replaced mine a few months back with a kit I bought several years ago.  The kit had 2 for the front and 3 for the rear like the others have said.  When I removed the rear discs there were four but they were thinner that the new ones and not original to the car.  The two discs in the front appeared to be original and were the same thickness as the replacements. I got the info on where to purchase them from this board.  I will look for the address of the guy who made them.  They were 135. for all 5 discs and they were a breeze to replace.  Here's a picture of the old & new.

As mentioned, that grease fitting looks "custom".  Have you tried shooting it with heavy grease to see if it restricts some of that play?  If it stays running well longer that may have been the reason it was added.  Not a fix but you'll know the play is your problem and then you can deal with it.

This is where the VIN on my 29 U is.  It is exactly the same as the engine number and is what was used to title my car. There is also a dash number on the medallion and a body number that is on a metal plate from Briggs Mfg. Co. attached to the driver's side floor.

I would say they are stamped steel. That's what they seem to be on my 29U.  Put a magnet to them.

No Gary my coupe is not finished but I finally got a serious start to it after owning it seven years.  The mechanicals are about 80% done. I have to mount three more new tires, lube all points, and a lot of other small jobs.  Then I'll finish tightening up all the wood in the cab area and figure out a plan for rebuilding/replacing the wood roof.  Last thing will be paint and interior although I kind of like the imperfections and patina it has now. It may just get some rubbing compound and a wax job.

General Discussion / Parts run today

Although I've been hot and heavy back into my car after a 6 yr. break I had to clear it out of the garage to make room for a parts hulk I purchased. I wish I could have gotten the body with it but I got what I could. I had to rush to move a roller out of my driveway to make room for the coupe and clear the garage to survey the wreck. Added bonus was I drove my coupe for the first time ever to get it out in the street and turn it around.  I'm bushed but wanted to post a couple pics.  I only bought it for the wire wheels and hubs but got them cheaper by hauling the rest away.
