General Discussion / Re: Brake Light Switch
May 03, 2023, 05:31:20 AM
I made a bracket that comes off the pedal stop screw. And use a brake light switch that became the new pedal stop. I can take a photo in a few days.
I should add mine is a RH drive. But should work on LH aswell.

I fitted a mechanical switch to the brake pedal. wasn't happy with the closing pressure setting on the master cylinder switch. Found no lights would illuminate under light braking.

who was it that rebuilt the starter motor. I wouldn't mind buying a new name plate for mine.

General Discussion / Re: Steering box disassembly

yes that is correct. I do have a disassembled steering box but currently not able to get you any photos, its up at the farm. Due to COVID19 not allowed to travel.

The sector shaft is a 1 piece casting with the teeth machined.

Yes I have had mine completely apart.
replaced upper and lower thrust bearings also replaced column bushings.

remove the 4 bolts that secure the sector shaft housing.
remove 2 bolt for lower seal
loosen top pinch bolt
remove large preload nut
shaft will slide straight out
worm gear is pressed and keyed onto shaft.

Not sure if you managed to loosen the thrust nut. But there is a pinch bolt which needs to be loosed before the thrust but can move.

On mine.

The nut can free spin on the column shaft.

My car uses the Stewart vac tank. When it is connected to the oil pump vac port. I essentially have no oil pressure. As soon as rank is connected to intake manifold and the vac port on oil pump is plugged off. I have full pressure again.

Just my experience

General Discussion / Re: Fans Self Destructing

Wow. Such a sad sight. Feel for him.  :'(    the theory they say regarding the ability for the fans to flex close to flange. Over time cracking. Sounds like the cause.

Not sure if 28/29 would be affected. due to 1 fan blade stamping. does anything know of a failure.

Hey guys

I have decided to put a rebuild kit through my master. As it leaks out dust boot.
Wondering if anyone had some light to where these components go

1: wavy thin shim washer
2: thick rubber round gasket. ( same size of bore).

The owners manual doesn't show these parts.

Thanks guys,
regarding supply.
I have to note that I have reduced the ID of the decal to match the dia of my barrel. I can though, change the doc to original  ID specs and have them printed.

Once I get mine finalised, I will know more.

If I get some made to original specs. Let me know who is keen, seems 3 so far. It will be at cost plus shipping.

General Discussion / Igniton switch
January 17, 2019, 04:26:47 AM
Hi All

Some of you may have seen my add looking for an ignition coil and switch. Well I decided to have a go at making a look alike. I had a face plate but the coil had been chopped of the back. Then an aftermarket switch was fitted. So with these items I set the task to make it all flush then remark the label.
made a bush the sits nicely within the 3 tabs on the backside of the faceplate. The switch just screws in tight. Then once the switch is in correct orientation the bush was just welded to the faceplate.
Next was the decal label. Using Microsoft word I drew up a few simple shapes and made them to size. The original was white with black writing. But black with white writing matched amp/oil pressure gauge. I then added the text. Test printed on normal paper for fitment. Then printed it out on photo paper.

Very happy with the result. Now to get a proper steel etched or printed version made.

Thanks guys. This is the first time i have ever high filled, guide coat and sprayed acrylic paint.  Its all been self taught along the way.

You could say the painting was the easy bit. cutting and polishing is an absolute pain. Again first time. Learned the not what to do and rubbed through the paint in 2 spots (s*#t). Hopefully i can fix them and blend it with out it being noticeable.
