General Discussion / Re: Shifting & Other Issues
September 15, 2015, 04:21:38 AM
Thank-you for this post I enjoyed the reading.
""I had my car for 50 years as of last month.  It's been fun and frustrating and will continue to be.  Wonder if it will get to the point of maintain instead of repair - probably not.""
That is why we have these cars , the frustration of (or trying to ) find problems, the satisfaction of the fix and the pleasure of the cruising.
Kind regards, Des .

Hi Guys , Different opinions on oils has and will go on for ever .
As a Mechanic I do not recall getting much trade training on oil properties etc, .
C#? is Diesel & S#? is petrol grading the higher the second alpha ( ie SE or SH etc ) the better the oil for a modern engine, but dose not mean better for our old girls.
Remember oil flow is as important as oil preasure. ( Water flows better than grease )
Here is a re-post of a link I got from this site some time ago which is very ( probably over ) informative .

General Discussion / Re: Carby air filter
February 02, 2014, 07:48:08 PM
Hi Ian,
I believe that ( in the RHD version if not all ) these cars came out with a particle separator ( similar to the cyclonic pre-filters used in dusty environments ) I think Garry's Q has this type.
My Q had a deformed motorcycle filter (as pictured) jammed in that space .
I have fitted a generic filter, housing and a flexible air intake .
I Hope photos work.

General Discussion / Re: Q rear light required
November 21, 2013, 07:15:58 AM
Hi Guys , Some more info, I would like the lamp assembly with lens etc ( has 1 piece glass ), It is 90mm or 3 1/2" across. The taillight king has only bezel available 1144 .  I have another mounting post/bracket/gooseneck ready to go onto the guard/fender. The car ( I believe ) is a Canadian build Fisher body and I would like to match the one already fitted.
No good at the Bendigo swap but found "Oldcarlens" USA can supply but over $400 to Au Ouch .
Gary I have emailed both contacts you gave and will post results.
Thanks Des.

Thanks Guys,
I cant figure out how to get photos from my phone, So I have taken some on my kids camera set to low quality but still around 1 mb. See how we go.
Gary , your offer sounds too good to miss , I will call you .
This issue I believe is the car may have some other Chrysler products rear brake assembly on one side for some unknown reason. Can someone indentify the Q plate.
OK I discoverd if I prepair photo for email send it to myself save email attachment then choose that fileto attach .
See how this goes.
Thanks, Des.

Hi all, Des from Melbourne Australia.
Thanks Garry (AussieQ)for introducing me to this site, it has given me many hours of interesting reading and reserch.
I have a 28 canadian RHD build sedan . I need information.
I have had many issues with the braking system on my car although it was stopping well.
The one thing I am not on top of yet is the rear brake mountng plate, as left and right have different plates.
One has a larger hole that goes around bearing ~69mm flat hole, and the other ~54mm ~2.1" rounded/rolled radus hole.
I do not know if the axle housing is original Q or other, I assume Q.
I assume the axle bearing should protrude the axle housing and the backing plate go around the bearing with seal assembly & other disc/ring drilled scacer plate be the retainer,
or shound the bearing be flush with diff housing and the smaller hole plate acts as a retainer.
Ply33.com  shows part 43694 for Q and some U then part 301473 for rest of U and 30U. (any body know the diference ?)
Ply33 only shows 1 seal/housing, However I have one at 15mm high & one at 18mm high (which has rubed on drum).
At this stage my plan is to mill out the smaller holed plate  to 69mm hole, and make up some new retaining plates to go behind the seal housings. If the small holed plate is correct I may be able to get hold of another small holed backing plate.
If I figure how to upload photos they will follow in the future.
To the Melbourne Australia members I hope to catch up with you all some day.
Thank-you Des.
