Frank,

I know what you mean. I someday hope to start work on my 29 to get her closer to original.  I would like to redo the car as a Taxi.  I have seen a few factory pictures of a 29 Plymouth Taxi.   Don't know yet.., just thinking out loud.

Thanks for the reinforcement, your explanation is pretty much what I have seen.

Not a problem.  The fly market is pretty overwhelming.  You really need at least two full days or more to go through it all.  I get board easily so one day is all I can do.  The car show requires another day to really enjoy.

Event is scheduled for Ludlow Vermont beginning Sept 19, 2013.  Has anybody heard of this event, and if so are you planning to attend???

Steve,

My 2 cents on the 1928-Q.  I am not an expert but the firewall I would think would be the same color as the body paint.  The engine, transmission, & bell housing would be black and the head is silver.  (Thus the Silver Dome)

For body paint colors try this link:   http://www.ply33.com/Models/Q/

I plan on walking the fields on Friday October 10 looking for stuff.  If anyone from this forum is there it would be great to say hello face to face.

Welcome Steve,

Nice car !!  I think that once you get her running you might find that life in the slow lane isn't all that bad.   Some even think that cars went down hill once they put steel wheels on them.

Good Luck,  Chet...

Ian,

The plugs I have are New Champion (561) W16Y.  They are very large plugs I purchased them quite awhile ago.
I think they are for the Model A Ford.  You can find specs on the internet.
I don't know if these would work but I was told that they could be used on the 28 Plymouth.

Just as a thought. Could adding coolant stop thermosyphon effect. My understanding of thermo cooling systems is that the water needs to get hot and expand to start circulating. So by adding coolant this might stop water expansion ( i know it will expand but maybe not enough) and also increase the boiling point.
What do you think?
Maybe reduce the mix to like 30/70 coolant/water
I use just rust inhibitor which has a very slight coolant content. Never had a problem with overheating. In fact it works very well.
Ian

I believe "yes" to this.  I used to run 50/50 and had occasional overheating.  I had read on some tractor sights about the thermosiphon system and they recommended more water (distilled) than coolant because it DOES effect the system.  That's why I use approximately a 70/30 mix (mostly water) and keep it full.

Sounds good to me.  I usually start with 50/50 and if needed add water.  I am probably closer to 30/70 by now then the original 50/50.  Maybe that's why I have had little trouble.  The theory makes sense to me.

Tks,  Chet...

Just an FYI...  Since I grew up in the Northeast I have always used 50/50 mixture of coolant in all my cars.   As far as my 29 is concerned it is no different.  I haven't added water in 3 years and have driven the car in 90 degree weather.  I guess the thermometer in the radiator cap helps me feel OK about the water level.  Just opening the cap and looking in I don't see any water.  It seems that these cars find their own level and then work just fine.   My temperature is always right on the money.  According to the radiator motormeter I purchased from Jay Fisher.
