I got a new flap from cooker tires.  How wide it is?  My new one is 7 inches wide and very heavy stiff rubber.  Wouldn't a one that is 3 inches work?  It only has to be protecting where the tube meets the steel rim.

How tight is the rear axle nut suppose to be?

Once I removed the tire, the tube was stuck pretty badly to the rim.  Is there supposed to be a rubber flap between the tube and rim.?  Is so, I am missing mine.

I remove the wheel today to fix a flat..  Found that I have 4 loose spokes, gear oil is on the inside of the drum.  It looks like there is grease mixed gear oil.  There looks like a outer seal , grease seal.  Is there a inner oil seal?  Or does the wheel bearing ride in oil?  Where would I look for such seals?  Brake shoes are light coated in a grease/oil goo.  Never a easy simple job!

Do most people use dot 3 or dot 5 brake fluid ?  i thought if you use classic dot 3 brake fluid, you should change brake fluid every 3 years.   I will be honest, I never change fluid unless I am fixing a brake issue.

I have a leaking exhaust gasket.  I bought a new old from BEST and it looks like it has some type of graphite coating.  This goes on dry, correct?

Did anyone use their Plymouth for parade duty this 4th? 

It has taken me a year to find a rebuildable oil pump core.  Fired up the old girl and it had good oil pressure but the carb was leaking fuel.  I have a electric fuel pump for years and a I run a regulator at the lowest setting and never had a issue.  I put a pressure gauge on and got a reading of 2.5 psi.  I think this is too high as gas is leaking.  Since the Kingston (?spelling) fuel pump was mostly gravity to the carb, should the pressure to the car be more like 0.5 to 1  psi?   I think my regulator is bad? 

I had my oil pump rebuilt about 2 years ago during the engine rebuild.  It has a total of 200 miles.  The oil pump shaft broke and caused the cast iron housing to brake.  I found a spare engine strip for parts and got a good oil pump core.  I plan to pull the "fingers" from the rebuilt pump and use them in the parts engine core.  The question I have is, should I hone the housing or not?  The fingers you can see in the photo are not sharp but well rounded, so it must have some wear on it.

Is the oil pump the same on early and late 4 cylinders?

I have had a problem with over heating.  I have had a new radiator core (from brass works) along with a 4 blade fan blade( off a40 dodge) and she still ran hot.  It would boil away radiator fluid and every gas fill up I was adding more fuild.  I was using 50:50 water/prestone.
I then tried 100 percent water from the garden hose, it worked. Worked great.
Ran cooler, no needing to frequently add more.  I have added some water wetter for the anti rust effect.
What do most people run in there thermo sphion radiators?
I use a old John Deere two clyinder with thermo sphion that has 50:50 mix and never had any issues even on 90 degree days under heavy use ( plowing).

I finally got around to replace my rad hoses as I got tried of all three of them slowly leaking.  I had used a red hose as I liked the look.  I do not know if that was original or not.  I got 24 inches of 2 inch modern black hose and cut the pieces to fit.  Does not leak not.  Does any one run straight water?  I thought I had read some where that straight water was a better heat conductor that the classic radiator fluid.  Modern rad fluid has a higher boiling temp but does it conduct heat better???  I do not drive the car in the winter so freezing is not a concern.  What does most people do?

I was over at SDglenn's house and we took apart the shifter mech that he had out of this 29 and found how why it is so loose.  Mine also has a lot of play in the shifter.  When shifting into third, I have to have the shifter far to the passenger side and then I hit my wife's knee when I shift into third.  We think we found out why and how to fix.  

There is a pin on the top of the shift mech , passenger side.  This pin should be tight.  When you move the shifter, you can see/feel this pn move, if so , you have problems.  Mine move some.

Would any one know the first year dodge offered juice brakes?  Did they have them before Plymouths were made?

I was going to fix my charging problem but noticed a large amount of brake fuild around where my front passenger tire sat on the floor.  It turns out that I suddenly delvoped a back wheel cylinder.  I pulled the wheel  and brake all apart and found very soaked brake shoes and a badly leaking wheel cylinder.

I had all 4 wheel cylinders bored and sleeved in stainless steel one year ago.  Not sure why it went bad.  I am going to rehone and put new cups in  1 1/4 inch.  The question I have is there any way to save brakes shoes that are soaked in brake fluid?  Or do they just need to be relined? 

I was told once that you could put baking soda in the drum as a stop gap to get you home.

I took my 29 which normally charges about 10 for a while then backs down.  Tonight, it charged at 15 to almost 20 the entire time it was running.  At idle , she charged at 10.  The battery is new and it took almost no time at all cranking so it is not like I killed the battery getting it started.  I rebuilt the generator myself .  I bought a generator lathe off ebay and cut down the shafts and put in new brushes about 100 miles ago.  I looked at the manuel and it states you can turn down the charging but not sure why it started to charge more on the gauge.
any ideas where I should start checking??

My 4 door has 73,000 miles (at least that is when the speedo broke) and I have a question to people with younger cars.  If you put the transmission lever in 3 rd gear, how much play is there at the gear shift knob?  Mine has about 6 inches side play .  The problem is if I have someone in the front passenger seat.  I always hit their left knee with the gear lever as it swings over to the passenger side so much when I shift.

I got a book a Model A fords and the stock 4 popper could be hopped up a nice bit with little work.  A high compression head will raise compression ratio from 4 to a littler over 6.  A more agressive cam can be bought and then to intake/carb combos.  You can get them  to run 50's (mph).

My question is has anyone done such for plymouths?  Were there police (higher compression ) heads in the day?  What about milling the head to bump compression?  Anybody have a cam regound in a more agressive profile?  I am using a model a stock carb since it has a much better air cleaner than the stock plymouth, otherwise mine is bone stock.

I have some of the wood on my door that is pretty dry.  Since there is not replacement wood available like the model A and the fact that I do not want to tear apart my car and then have hours to years of work replacing wood piece by piece, is there any stuff that you could put on the wood that would soak into it and "repair it"?  What I was thinking was like a 2 part expoxy that would soak into the wood.  JB weld is a good hole filler but not what I am looking for.
Any ideas?
