Title: Running boards original 1929U
Post by: jjohn on February 23, 2020, 12:28:25 PM
I wonder if any have a picture how the original running boards looks like.

I have these mounted on the car think they are newly manufactured late 50's

Here is the passenger side repro board I purchased in the mid '60's.  It is 43-1/4" long, 13-1/4" at the wide end and 9" at the narrow end.  My car is an early 30-U RS Coupe.

ok thanks, it is some kind of "aluminium" list outside the board?

jjohn, what you showed in your pictures, if it is a repro.., is an excellent repo of the original running boards. The original were sheet metal and sectioned the same as yours.

Was it some kind of aluminum outside the edge or just rubber bend over?

On the 30-U there is aluminum edge moulding.  I don't know if that is correct for your car.

My 29U has aluminum trim all the way around it. It appears original and I have seen the same trim on other cars.

I checked the master parts list and the running boards and trim are the same for the Q, U and 30-U.  Does anyone have a source for the correct running board mat?

The POC Recommends the mat from Restoration Supply.  Your car your choice, many options.

You and ski are very lucky. I have been looking for original trim for about 15 years without any luck.  I can make the running boards but not the trim.  So I am always looking.  Years ago someone made reproductions but very expensive.

I believe someone is still making repro moulding for the early cars.  I have no idea what they cost but he advertises in the Plymouth Bulletin.  His name is Bob Romano and his email is bobnroman@yahoo.com.  I bought the ones I have back in the late 60's and can't remember who was making them back then.  I am just now using them.  Hope they fit!
