You sure are having a problem with that one, lol.  When I took mine apart (front and rear) and started to put it back together I found I only had enough buckel washers for one set.  After much cleaning and hunting I did find 1 buckel washers for each castle bolt and nut. So I ended up with the right amount. I think you need to have one on each disk hole that has the bolt head through, six per each end of the drive shaft should do it.  Thats the way I remember it anyway. lol

You sure are one "lucky" person. Congrates. I think you have a good plan, being as the engine is on the shop floor yet, sure sound reasonable to me. Then you know for sure what you have.  Also, you may have some parts from your original engine to use for swapping with others.  Good luck with that... keep in touch.  I haven't started the 39 yet, but am getting closer. lol

txs Wayne, no, it never was military. I was hoping for a while that it may have been when I found a military maintenance manual in the trunk. Turned out the manual was for a 1941 I think, not the 1939 model. So much for that. There are some good articles on the military plymouths in the POC Magazine, number 216 I believe.

Got the pan off, it is about 1 1/2 inches deep in muck, the sump screen is pretty much plugged up. I think I might just put in oil seals and clean up the crankcase, check the brgs, and put it back together, see how it runs.

Since this is not a military plymouth.........
I have gotten the brakes up to par, and they now work great. I have replaced the windshields and door windows, along with the weather stripping and all the seals for the windows (from Andy), they all fit perfectly.  I wanted to get the engine running before I decided how far I was going to go with this one. However, to get at the engine easily I took the fenders off to replace the Fender welting while I was at it. Of course the bolts all turned, or stripped the nuts, or whatever , all the bolts had to be ground off with a grinder, (almost all)  Then drained the oil, stuck my pinky in the drain hole... there was so much stuff in the oil pan, now I am in the process of taking the engine apart. Sure looks like a mess right now.  I sure hope to get this running by spring. lol

If you are standing fairly close you will hear it crack. lol.   I don't think you are cooling too slow, I would cool faster than that, but don't let me influence you, you seem to know what the heck you are doing. lol  Good luck

I found this 39 Plymouth on E-bay, over by Milwaukee Wis. Needed something to work on this winter. lol I hope I don't have the problems Tony ended up with. This one has been in storage for 30+ years, so it has been at least that long since it has run. Someone had done a nice job on the upholstery, but really.... Black leatherete.
No rust or dings to speak of, I may just compound it and see what I come up with. Do all the mechanicals fist. lol and drive, drive, drive..... Tony, is this a "Ute" ?

You must be familiar with welding cast iron, the cracking problem with too much heat. It the cracks aren't too large maybe try drilling a hole, run threads then an allen screw. If the hole is to large perhaps more drill holes and repeat with more tapping and allen screws. Just an Idea. I have never had much luck welding cast iron. Good luck.

If I remember right, I had a simular problem when I done a bit of work on my drive disks. I found one of the bolts (that hold the disks) was clicking on a bolt (or something) on the 3rd member. Check to see if there is enough clearance there. Hope you find it soon without it driving you nuts. lol

Wayne, Thanks a whole lot. That was an excellent narration on the Ute. I really appreciate the history of the ute also. Thanks again.  I remember back in 1958 I cut the back end off a 1941 Chev 2 dr sedan, and built a box on the rear end to haul my tools, etc. Would that have been concidered a "Ute"?  I wish I had some of the cars I destroyed and beat the hell out of when I was a younger fella.

Tony, I hate to sound completely ignorant, but, I'll give it a shot.  I never heard of a "ute" until I joined this site. What is a "ute"? Does "ute" stand for anything in particular? Short for something, slange for something? // ??
