brake drums for 1929 U with artillary wheels
« on: September 05, 2016, 02:56:12 AM »
Does anyone know where I can find a rear brake drum for my 29 4-door sedan with wooden spoke wheels?  Any help will be appreciated.

hi there

If you are still in need of a brake drum for a 29 Plymouth, I have a rear drum in good condition which you are welcome to, however I am in Western Australia which may put you off as postage charges here are possibly worse than in USA.
The drum is evenly worn with ID about 11-1/16 inch. Bolt circle diameter is 5-3/4 inch which you need to check as I have found some are smaller. My Plymouth has 20 inch wheels, while later in the year there was a change to 19 inch I believe.

I shall check the bolt circle and get back to you.  Thank you for the offer.  It should perhaps work as I have the 20" wheels.

Sounds like it may fit. I just checked Aus postage charges on line. The drum weighs 3.3 kg and postage for standard international would be about $A80 ($US60) with delivery stated as 5 days (I find that hard to believe), or about $A50 for sea mail which would take up to 3 months.
regards
Jim

Sorry, I should have responded sooner.  There isn't any difference in the drum size from a 20" wood wheel or a 19" wood wheel.  The drum is the same for both.

Chet,
Did you get a drum?
I have an extra rear wood spoke wheel, 20 inch, with drum.

In any case, if anyone needs a 20 inch rear wood spoked wheel I have one available.
