General Discussion / 28 Q engine info
March 27, 2018, 06:13:53 PM
greetings all - looking for any info on torque specs  on rods and mains for above engine.  After doing cylinder leakdown test it was confirmed that rings are collapsed and/or worn.  I have located pistons and rings from Hagans Auto in Washington and Melling cylinder liners for the engine.  Plan of attack is to pull head and mic the bores to see how bad things are.  If not toooo bad will ball hone cylinders to break glaze and install new pistons/rings.  If too far gone then out she comes.  Would like any info regarding torques if at all available.
thanx in advance for any info

General Discussion / oil pressure gauge
April 28, 2017, 07:26:58 AM
Greetings all - does anyone have any idea or suggestions as to where I could get the oil pressure gauge on a 28 Q repaired.  In the Car I am working on the gauge is now pegged all the way.  This happened during transport to the paint shop (bad bumps on the rollback).. Car normally carries 20-25 psi idling as I have checked pressure before with independent gauge.  Plan is to put another gauge under dash (temporary) while  original is out for repair.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I know this gauge works with spring pressure instead of a bourdon tube so I suspect damage there from the rough ride.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanx in advance.

Greetings all - have a question.  Had to replace cork float in the vacuum tank as it was completely gone -  Installed brass float.  Car runs fine but I am now sucking gas thru the vacuum line to oil pump - not good!!
Figure I must float too high.. Does anyone know correct height and/or what I could use for float ta alleviate this problem????

General Discussion / 28 Q U-Joints
February 16, 2015, 10:06:22 AM
would anyone know of a torque value for the bolts that hold the u joints?  I have cut 5 new discs on my lathe and one would think that there should be a specified torque on the bolts rather than just "tight".  The 7/16" bolts are pretty stout so I would think they would handle 60-70 ft pds without too much trouble but I don't see any reason to overtighten them other than to collapse the buckle plates.  Any thoughts or info would be appreciated....Too bad there was never an assembly manual for these cars as it would make life a lot simpler.

General Discussion / 28Q photos
February 06, 2015, 10:58:57 PM
Greetings all - talked with the the owner of the car I am working on and he has agreed to let me post photos.  I had planned on posting a lot of photos showing what has been accomplished and how it was done but see that I can only post 4 photos.  I have been in the tranny, clutch, distributor, coil, speedometer, clum switch, brakes, (both master cylinder and wheel cylinders), vacuum tank, u joints, fuel gauge, wiring (can't complete until car is back together) etc.  I have buffed the headlight reflectors along with the headlights themselves, radiator shell, and bumpers along with the hubcaps (guess that is what they are called). May not be as shiny but is much less expensive then rechrome and the owner likes the "old but decent look".  Am presently in the shocks tyring to get them working and will be replacing the straps.

Anyone out there know of a way to post a bunch of photos?  May be some good ideas for others in what has been accomplished on this car and how it was done......

General Discussion / 28 Q questions
February 01, 2015, 03:31:25 PM
Greetings all - have some questions that I hope someone can assist with:
1.  How many discs go into the front U joint_ I read the answer to this somewhere but cannot locate it again.  I know one end gets three and the other two but want to make sure.
2.  Does anyone know if the buckle plates are available for the U-Joints.  These are the what I would call a waffle washer and I believe they go on each side of the bolts that go thru the discs.
3.  Is there a torque value on the not that holds the yoke onto the tranny output shaft?  On the one I am working on the nut is a castle nut and shaft is drilled for a cotter key but if the nut is       tightened up it goes beyond the hole for the cotter pin.  Guess I am asking if the yoke is supposed to float on the splined shaft and the keyed not prevents the nut from coming off.
4.  Does anyone know the correct material for the straps on the shocks and if they are available and/or what material would work for them.

Thanks for the help-photos will be coming if we ever get it done........

General Discussion / Headlightbuckets and Rad shell
November 26, 2014, 07:08:08 PM
Was curious if anyone knows what the base metal is for the Radiator Shell and Headlight Buckets on a 28 Model Q.  Have got to refinish these items but if the base metal is acceptable I may just work with that.  The reflectors for the Headlights are Brass and I have buffed them back from junk to a high gloss and may try the same approach with the other items depending on the material. I would assume that they are either steel or brass but was wondering if anyone know for sure.......Thanks in advance

General Discussion / vacuum fuel pump canister
November 10, 2014, 11:44:12 AM
Greetings all - New member here -  working on a 28Q and was having trouble with oil pressure and traced it to the gasket  (vacuum leak) on the bottom of the inner canister in tank mounted on firewall.  Was wondering if anyone had photos or a schematic of this unit as I would like to change the cork floats while it is apart.  Old one(s) in bad shape and am looking for correct size as I believe someone had their fingers in this before me...Pls help if you can
