Good morning Chet    F5 refresh doesn't change anything. Doing a "Disk Cleanup" also didn't change anything. Deleted your site from my "Favorites" and added your "new" site and that didn't change anything. Rebooted my computer after doing those things and that didn't change anything. Your avatar and the test photo show right away. No other person's avatar ,including my own, shows. Just a box with a red X. However as you can see posting works fine and I can see any other photos if I want by clicking on the photo's blue title. Don't go out of your way to fix this. I can use the site OK and may stumble on the problem in the next few days.

This forum is now using PNG thumbnail formats rather than GIF or JPG.  PNG stands for Portable Network Graphics (PNG) PNG images support a wide range of features, including lossless compression, a wide range of color support, and more advanced transparency options than its predecessors. The Portable Network Graphics format was created as a response to patent controversies surrounding the Graphics Interchange Format (GIF).  It was introduced in 1996. But you don't care about all that.

My first thought is that your computer is not recognizing the PNG file format.  Probably an easy fix once we determine what needs to be turned on or off.  Please do not post this info but email to me what type of computer you are using and the system.  i.e. Acer laptop running Windows 2000.  Then I will research a solution for you.

Hi chet.
The new upgrade looks great. Have not come accross any problems. Seems fine.
You have done a great job.
Ian.

Ian,

That's good to hear, I have spent a little time this evening working out some minor setup issues.  I did find a few.  But things seem to be working OK now.

General Discussion / Re: 8 Volt

Great information again. Thank you.

Here's an update. I received the 8 volt Battery Tender and charged to the correct level. The car fired right up.

The relay closes. It remains closed until I shut off the ignition. I have to drive it a while to see that the battery does not over charge.

I read that I may have to bend the contact spring to compensate for the 8 volt battery, but that remains to be seen.

If there are no further comments, or ideas from you, I'll keep you posted.

SteveG

Steve,

In the Tech Section there was a document that explained how to adjust the third brush on the generator.  I repaired the links in the post and also provided it here for you.  Maybe this might help you with your current adjustment.

General Discussion / Fifth Year Forum Anniversary
April 12, 2012, 07:59:25 PM
This past March 2012 represents the fifth year this web forum has been serving the Plymouth & early Mopar community.  Those members who are titled as Founding Members joined this web forum in its early infancy and have been long time contributing members who have helped make this place on the web a truly open environment for anyone who owns or wants to own an early Mopar..., modified or not.

There are many members who are also members of both large and small antique car clubs.  If you would like to recognize yourself as a member of a particular club.  I would be happy to setup groups for any member or members who request this classification.

So if setup.., it would appear like this:

chetbrz
FOUNDING MEMBER
Senior Forum Member

or

chetbrz
POC MEMBER
Senior Forum Member

or

chetbrz
AACA MEMBER
Senior Forum Member

or

chetbrz
LOCAL CLUB MEMBER
Senior Forum Member

Please keep in mind you can only be associated with one additional group classification.

This is just a thought to see if anybody is interested.  Once a group is setup there are numerous opportunities for creating special permissions and special board access.

Let me know what you think....  I am always looking to make things better.

Best Regards,  Chet...

Your pictures match the hood locks (parts catalog reference) on my 30U.

According to the parts book this hood lock was used on Q, U, 30-U, and PA up tyo serial number 1627135. It lists a different number for PA after that number, and a diffferent number for PB.

With regard to the interior door handles and windo cranks. The ones pictured are often sold on eBay as for the early Plymouths, but they are not as original.

Picture below shows a door handle (broken) and the small handle for the windshield crank. These are the same as one two original 28 in our club and were originals on my 30-U. These are made of pot-metal and are very soft and break very easily. Reproductions in Stainless Steel are available from Verdone's Custom Stainless Casting, 31 Stricklerstown Loop Road, Newmanstown, PA 17073-9156. The last cost I have for the five handles for my coupe was $432.00 plus shipping, but they are available.

Just some info.

Gary

Thanks Gary,

I reposted this in the section Sources for hard to find parts.

Good info,  Chet...

This board is being hit with 5 to 10 phony registrations per day.  These are coming mostly from the UK.  I have increased the security on this forum by installing the latest security patches and also by switching on the new member registration requirement.

As always, if anyone is experiencing issues or problems accessing these boards please contact me via email.

General Discussion / Welcome to this Forum !!!

FORUM PURPOSE:

THIS FORUM IS FREE AND HAS NO AFFILIATION WITH ANY ORGANIZED ANTIQUE CAR CLUB.

This forum was created for people who regularly drive or wish to someday drive their 1928 Model Q, 1929 Model U, or 1930-U Plymouth.  All 4 cylinder Plymouth owners are welcomed as well as 1924 to 1932 Chrysler, Dodge, & DeSoto.  These early Plymouths and Chryslers are very similar in construction with many similarities in parts.  Actually after 80+ years.., any year noted could contain any combination or mixture of parts.   Since there are not a whole lot of these models around with even fewer experts on their repair and maintenance, I thought that having a place to share issues, problems, and practical information about these cars would be a big help to those who especially enjoy using them.

Therefore:

THE PURPOSE OF THIS FORUM IS TO FREELY SHARE INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE TIPS ABOUT THESE EARLY PLYMOUTHS & CHRYSLERS WITHOUT OPINION CONCERNING THE MODIFICATION OR USE OF YOUR VEHICLE.  KEEPING THESE WONDERFUL AND EXTRAORDINARY CARS RUNNING IS THIS WEB SITE'S FIRST PRIORITY.  YOU ALONE ARE LEFT TO BE THE JUDGE OF YOUR CAR.

PS... Posting information about a Sunday Drive is always welcomed especially if you post a picture.

Keep them rolling...

The weather Gods were good to me this weekend and the temperature here in Virginia was very mild.  I continued work on the drive train.   I installed the transmission that I cleaned up last weekend.

Great story..., I know how you feel.  If my car was working the weather here was great for an afternoon drive.  Temperatures were in the low 60s.
