I read it in Hemmings Classic Car. They were talking about how attendance was down and losing money. The cars would go to other museums.

Ski, I have that same carburetor. The PO had installed an electric impulse pump which is what most people go for because of price. I installed a Carter vain pump, works better easier to regulate. I found a Stewart vacuum fuel feed on Ebay and installed  that. Works great period correct. You can find parts for them. Still have my carter under the floor. if by chance the Stewart quits just move a couple of hoses and I am running again.

I am using A Stewart Warner. The Guy I got the car from took it off and installed an electric pump. The owner before him had a Stewart pump on it. Looking at pictures it had been on a long time. The Stewart pump am using now I got off Ebay at a real good deal. It was like new. Had some problems in the beginning with the pluming but I have it working and has never let me down. I have an electric vain pump under the floor just in case but never use it.

General Discussion / Re: Oil

Not comparing apples to apples. Harley Davidson says a qt of oil every 500 miles is ok. Now go back 80 years, I have worked on so old stuff that has a total loss oil system. If your car is not smoking excessive I wouldn't be to worried about consumption.   Just be aware. I had a customer several years ago would drive her Land Cruser until it started rattling and then she would add oil. Never check it just go buy sound. worked for her.

My oil pressure hot at idle 25 to 30, Highway speed 35 are a little higher not quite 40. I use non detergent. That's  what I was getting at about the multigrades. High detergent suspends the debris to carrie   it to the filter non detergent lets it settle in the pan. Like I say I have learned not to tell anyone what oil to use, But you can't go wrong with the guy that designed it.

I do not know what the previous owner used, After I did my cam gear I used Shell Rotella 15 40, had some problems not picking up oil after the car had been sitting for a while. I changed to Honda GN4 10 40 motorcycle oil no more problems but I keep reading about multi viscosity oil foaming and without a filter it carriers  all the debris it picks up. these old engines  were designed for straight wt oil. so I changed to a straight wt HD 30, the engine is quieter oil looks good it's less expensive. I make a point not to dispute what brands and weight of oil my customers want to use but you can't beat what the manufacture recommends

This will not help find the short but on my fuse holder I made an adapter so I can use the modern fuse. The glass tube ones wouldn't stay in.

I got my lines off Ebay. I put the banjo end in a soft jaw vice to unscrew the hose

I let my car sit two winters ago, When I was ready to drive it three brakes wouldn't work and one would drag. Cleaned all the wheel cylinders, all the seals were good. I had rebuilt the master cylinder about a year earlier. Still couldn't get the brakes to work. Didn't know how old the rubber hoses were, Replaced them. All is good. I use DOT 4 because i work on motorcycles and that's what most of them use and its here all the time. Some of my customers with vintage bikes have tried the switch to DOT 5. Working on a 71 FX Kick Start now. All ways end up going back to 4 or 3. If you do not flush it out very good stuff ends up sticking.

A 30 distributor is a little different than a 28-29, But the advance works the same. Just looking at mine, there is no up down slop in it. And there is noticeable drag when trying to turn it. I notice you have a sprung on yours, there should be no need for a spring. Set it where you want it and it should stay. Just wandering is all that looseness allowing it to jump a tooth and get out of time

I have seen engines running very rich and the extra fuel would weep up pass the spark plug and because of oil and other contaminants it is black and appears to be oil. My car at idle is rich, and the exhaust is very sooty. That's been discussed on here before.

The spark plug washer should seal the hole.
