General Discussion / Cruzin
August 09, 2014, 10:45:06 AM
My wife and I drove the 30U to a local cruzin last night, Suppose the be featuring A models. One was there, the rest were Mustangs Impalas and such. Left, went by Sonic, placed our order, Young girl came with our food, She was quite surprised and said she didn't see many cars like this. WE just laughed and told here I was going to trade up in a few years. You can open the doors and use the running boards to sit your drinks on.

General Discussion / Re: Engine Stalls

Here is my 2 cents. What kind of card are you using? If it has an accelerator pump, and stalls on acceleration, that pump isn't working. When you open the throttle you have to have a rich fuel mixture. Got to take the carb off and see whats wrong. If your using ethanol fuel it will eat up any cork gaskets floats seals, and those little crumbs will get in every little hole

General Discussion / Re: 8 Volt (contd)

If you use a good quality battery and keep connections clean you will not have any problem with 6 volt. A friend of mine who was raised in Minnesota reminds me of the days when 6 volt wouldn't crank his car when the temps got below 0. I want be riding around in this car when it's that cold.

General Discussion / Re: Hand crank
November 07, 2013, 11:18:27 AM
I used a piece of 3/4 round stock that had been laying around and rusted, had some pits in it. I wanted it to look old. Pulling up on the crank was easy, I was surprised at how easy. This engine cranks easy with the starter. I had to put a cam gear in several years ago. finding information on timing was hard. I have always set the points timing by ear and seat of the pants feel going down the road.

Just seeing if it worked. I kick start old bikes all the time. Nothing new. But I have seen so many variations in the cranks I just had to see if the one I made was comfortable to use.

General Discussion / Hand crank

I hand cranked my 30U this morning. I made the crank handle from looking at pictures of others. It took four cranks for it to start and this was a cold start. Retard the timing, no choke, set the idle. Didn't really hear it crank. The handle pushed out and I was making sure I didn't drop it and the engine was running.

Some friends of mine and me found our self in a sand storm west of Delta Utah several years ago. We were on motorcycles. When it is so thick you can't see the ground you think the world is coming to an end. Glad you made it safely.

I start like Glen except I turn the gas on first at the vacuum tank. Always shut it off when not in use, seams to hold the gas in there for quiet some time.

General Discussion / Re: Radiator cap question
February 13, 2013, 09:19:18 AM
There is a 30U Roadster on ebay. It has the double wing radiator cap. That is the third one I have seen on 30Us. If it was aftermarket, must have been a popular item to have lasted this long.

Here is the tool. My Daddy and Uncles worked in the paint and body business before and after the war. I still have a lot of his tools and use them. I do not know why the little hook slides out of the end but the fork holds the spring back and the center pin pushes the pin out of the hole
