General Discussion / Steering column floor plate
September 03, 2017, 10:47:18 PM
I purchased a steering colum floor plate and a gear shift floor plate from Steel Rubber. The gear shift floor plate fit perfectly.  However, the steering column floor plate had to be modified to fit my car. I had to raise the two slots for the pedals about 1/2 inch. I filled in the lower portion by glueing patches on the back.  These are expensive high quality products.  But not sure why the steering column cover did not fit. I wish I had kept the original one, but it was in awful shape.

Years ago I bought this tail light stalk from a Plymouth Club member.  It is a little different shape than the original 29U tail light stalk.  I used it for years for the right rear tail light. Can anyone tell me what year Plymouth it goes to?

I recently had my headlights rechromed.  I had the reflectors nickel plated and then sent them to Bill Atwood for his UVIRA coating. Bill still only charges $75 including return shipping.  I then installed 25 watt halogen bulbs from Bill Hirsch.  The first picture was taken with the lights off and a flash camera, while the second picture is with the headlights on.  They are much better than before.  The 25 watt bulbs draw about 4 amps each, which is about the same as the  30cp bulbs (#1000) I was using. The original equipped headlights had 21cp bulb with drew about 3 amps each.  Long ago I installed a voltage regulator in the generator and had the cutout converted to a diode with heat sink, both provided by Jim Peterson.

General Discussion / Third Brake Light
February 20, 2017, 03:55:08 PM
While I had the rear upholstery of my 29U Plymouth removed, I decided to install Third Brake Light for added safety.  I spliced the wires to the harness and ran the wires up the inside. The light bar attaches with suction cups.  If I want to hide it (t a show), I can tuck it behind the seat.  I also put LED lights in my tail lights ( a few years ago).  All are from a Ford Model A parts catalog.

General Discussion / 29 Plymouth Hubcaps
February 10, 2017, 10:21:02 PM
I am trying to get Vintage Restorations to make hubcaps for the 29 Plymouth with wood wheels.  I need to know if mine are correct.  My rear hubcaps have the octagon shape under the cap.  However, the front hubcaps do not, they are round.  Is this correct?

For thos of you trying to contact Brad Landoll of L&L Antique Auto Trim to purchase running board mouldings (trim), here is the latest information from him thanks to Skinned Knuckles mag:

"During the last few months I have been out of the shop a great deal.  I have some properties some distance away from where I reside and I hired a contractor to do extensive work on them so I could sell them.  Money was paid out and the work was not performed and with the work not being completed the buildings suffered extensive damage.  I have been trying to correct the issues with the buildings but that has required me to be away from the shop.  I believe I have this situation corrected and hopefully can get back to filling orders."

General Discussion / Running Board Matt/Rubber
January 20, 2017, 08:42:25 PM
I purchased running board matting from Restoration Supply Company.  Jeff Buton told me this was correct for the 29 Plymouth.  The part number is RUB020.  Order a 4 feet piece.  This comes in 48 inch width, so a 4 foot piece will actually be enough to make two full sets.  It also is sold in 36 inch widths.

See attached pages from catalogs.  That is Jeff's handwriting in the RSC page.

Restoration Supply Company, www.restorationstuff.com   760.741.4014

It is also sold by Restoration Specialties and Supply Co.  Their part number is MAT018.

PS - does the Corrugated Mat - Vinyl look correct for the floor mats?

General Discussion / Reproduction Handles
January 14, 2017, 09:46:21 PM
Attached is a picture of the model handles that Mike Butters showed me.  Do the three on the left all look correct?  I'll ask him about the missing knob and the dimensions.

Has anyone tried using wheel balancing beads?  I see them advertised in Model A parts supplier catalogs.  Snyders offers a kit for four tires.

General Discussion / Hayes Body Corp 29U 4 door sedans
December 30, 2016, 12:37:53 PM
Does anyone have any information on how many 29U 4 door sedans were built using body's by the Hayes Body Corp, or any information regarding these vehicle bodies?
After 43 years I am re-restoring my 1929U 4 door sedan and have run into a few minor issues with parts. According to the Body number plate, my 29U 4 door was built by the Hayes Body Corp.  Searching thru the Master parts book I noticed different part numbers for the doors and outside door handles.
Does anyone else in the forum have a Hayes Body 29 Plymouth?

General Discussion / Chrome Shops - recommendations?
December 18, 2016, 05:09:38 PM
Looking for some reccommendations for chrome plating shops that specialize in antique autos.  I want to have my headlights rechromed.  The bezels have a couple of small dents.  Need a shop that will make the repairs as well as chrome plating.

Has anyone used Paul's?

General Discussion / Sill Plate Question
June 30, 2016, 10:54:18 PM
I just received my new sill plates for my 29 Plymouth 4 Dr from Don Kuhn.   They look great.  Question - should the sills be installed under the sill covers, or on top of them?

I had my outside door handles and escutcheons chrome plated.  When I went to put them back together I noticed the handles do not sit all the way into the escutcheons - I guess the chrome plating made them too thick.  Question - the handles should sit all the way into the escutcheon sockets, correct?

When re-assembling, the spring sits on the inner part of the escutcheon - correct?

Also - Most every old Plymouth I have seen has at least one outside door handle that sags.  Has anyone ever tried to repair a door latch with a weak spring?
#34
Today I picked up my 1929 Plymouth 4 door sedan from the paint and body shop.  After 43 years I finally got it repainted!  Next I have to put the rest of it back together and get the Pin stripping done.
#35
What is the correct style for the front floor mat, and where can the material be bought?
#36
The judging guide states, "Pin stripe outlined wood graining on the sedan cowling"

What exactly does this mean?  Where is the woodgraining supposed to be at, and what does it look like?

General Discussion / FEDCO Plate
March 17, 2016, 09:58:00 PM
Does anyone know if the FEDCO dash plate had black paint in the recessed area, or was the entire plate unpainted steel?
I am trying to clean mine up before repainting the dash.  I have started polishing the FEDCO plate.

General Discussion / Gas Gage Flange question
March 12, 2016, 09:13:18 PM
This is a picture of the gas gage flange on the gas tank of my 29 Plymouth when I bought it in 1973.  Since then I had to replace the tank and it has the gas gage flange that is wide and sits close to the tank.

Has anyone else ever seen a gas gage flange like the one shown?

Is the attached the orrect gas cap for the 18-29 Plymouth?

Were the early Plymouth rims black or Cadmium plated?

If cadmium, what color would that look like?  Pewter?
