Title: Another Plymouth down under.
Post by: aussieQ on January 03, 2008, 01:01:21 AM
Hi there. Just introducing myself. My name is Gary Stocking. My wife June and myself are the new proud owners of a 1928 Plymouth Q four door sedan. We live in Melbourne Australia. Not knowing a lot about Plymouths I was really pleased to find out about this forum and will be very happy interact with other Plymouth owners. I believe our vehicle was one of the first Plymouths imported into Australia. Its FEDCO number code is HDO14L which I believe means it was built between the 14th July and 31st july 1928.
Regards
AussieQ.

Hi Gary and welcome.  I recently brought home a 29U coupe but have been busy with house and yard projects since late Nov.  I still check this board out almost every day even though I haven't had any thing to report lately.  I love your country and was in Melbourne in the late 80's. I also visited Brisbane, Darwin, Perth and Sydney on several ocassions.  Perth is much like San Diego where I've lived now for many years.
Chet has some very helpful info posted on his website that is linked on this one.  I recently got hold of a 28 Plymouth owners manual that has some info.  I will scan it when I go back to work so it can be available over the internet.

Hi Gary & Welcome,

You certainly bought a very interesting and rare old car.  I believe the Detroit plant ran 2 side by side production lines.  Below is my best guess.

Total Production of the 28Q was approximately 67,482 cars.
Your Serial Number = HDO14L   translated =  390,147

First production line run start = HL950P translated = 379,501  End = HD999D translated = 399,999
Second production line run start = RW000P translated = 400,001  End = RH997H translated =  439,973

First production line Detroit total cars built = 20,498  Your car being # 10,646.
Second production line Detroit cars built = 39,972
Windsor Canada built approximately = 7,012
