Hey, Gary.  Don't know if this will be any help or not.  Slid under the old girl ('29 bus coupe) and took a couple of pictures.  I seem to have trouble posting pics because of the size limitation but I'll try.  There is one pic of the muffler hanger on the cross member just ahead of the differential.  The rear-most hanger is a strap that comes off the angle iron piece just ahead and above the gas tank.  You can see the fuel line in the picture.  I do not know if this was the original location.  Hope this helps.  Kim Mc

General Discussion / Changing a tire on my 29U coupe
« on: March 21, 2010, 03:48:56 AM »
I've never changed a tire on one of these old split rims.  I have the split rim tool but I don't know how to use it.  Also, I don't know the correct procedure to unmount the old tire and mount the replacement.  Are "how to" instructions available anywhere or can someone brief me on the correct procedure/process?  Thank you.  Kim Mc

General Discussion / radiator shell repair question
« on: March 04, 2010, 07:55:49 PM »
The metal edge of the radiator shell around the radiator fill hole has corroded away (picture attached).  Can someone advise me if this can be repaired and who might have the skills to make the repair?  Thanks guys.  Kim

General Discussion / Re: steering gear control cover

Wonderful!  Nothing is ever easy, is it.  Thanks for your reply.  Guess I will leave this item for that time when I don't need the steering wheel and column for a while.  But I have plenty of other projects to work on with my car.  Thanks for the help.  Kim

General Discussion / steering gear control cover
« on: February 20, 2010, 03:40:27 AM »
Can someone tell me how to remove the "steering gear control cover", that donut shaped bakelite piece that surrounds the horn button and covers the light and throttle levers on the steering wheel of my '29 coupe.  I want to start working on fabricating new levers as my pot-metal ones are broken (as most are I understand).  It seems like it should unscrew but I can't budge it and I don't want to break it.  I thought someone out there might be able to give me some advice.  Thanks.  Kim Mc

General Discussion / Re: '29 ignition switch/coil combo...
« on: February 05, 2010, 05:50:24 PM »
Hey, thank you Craig!  I thought the bent under corners on the chrome bezel were just damage from a prior attempt to bend the tabs holding the switch to the coil.  Your instruction and info re the decal have been a tremendous help.  Because of the age of the coil, the poor condition of the pot metal switch, and that the ignition key has been lost, I presumed I should just start with a new coil and ignition like that offered by Atwater Kent (link below).  Do you agree?  Do you know if my old mounting bracket on the coil comes off and should be used to mount a replacement coil (this is probably a question for Atwater Kent).  Send me a picture of your '29 if you have time.  Thanks again for your reply...you've been a great help.  Kim Mc

General Discussion / '29 ignition switch/coil combo...
« on: February 05, 2010, 02:55:53 AM »
I just removed the combination ignition switch/coil from my '29 coupe.  The switch on the back of the coil is pot metal and has so many cracks in it that it could crumble in many small pieces at any time (picture attached).  I'm sure these are the original parts.  I was planning to replace this with a new switch/coil combo from Atwater-Kent.  Does someone know how the bezel surrounding the lock cylinder is attached and how to remove it without damage?  Has anyone installed the Atwater-Kent switch/coil combo?  Also, is there anyone out there that refurbishes the bezel with new paint, lettering (ignition,on, off, lock).  I don't know if the coil is good and the key has been lost.  Any advice or guidance you might be able to provide is appreciated.  I am a novice at this.  Thanks.  Kim Mc
