General Discussion / Re: Drt-08 209 fixing

Thanks , after some study . I believe that whole bottom mechanism is related to choking the air to going up inner stand pipe .
As   choke is moved and as it progresses up ,it closes off and cone then blocks outer venturi area . Probability only needed in most extreme cold ,sub freezing . Only effect now ,is  you need full or near full choke pull to get any . An this is what drivers describe when starting rebuilds . The top pipe hole are probability related to high accel . not choke . To add the components back in bottom would require machining a larger partial depth hole in SP to recess small spring . And side slots milled for brass bracket . Large spring and collar ,must just buffer return .

General Discussion / Drt-08 209 fixing
April 18, 2020, 08:43:20 PM
Hello All .  I been working on my 209 carb to get it working . Had it rebuild and was done with incorrect RJH parts . Been working on a year , on and off along with some others with same rebuild on AACA site . I determined idle tube need to have lower jet hole increased and inside jet restriction reduced . Just doing that got it starting and running . Did not road test was Winter , at time .  Disassembled again since repaired exhaust and manifold leaks. Want to check out specs of orifices in replaced standpipe and cone . From some holes in top of pipe missing and parts near bottom not reinstalled . Are ther not need now ??? Attached is pic of pieces and spring with questions I have . Any help would be appreciated .
I think Frank29u did some work on his years ago , any input please .

Just curious Frank , if you ever get interested in getting rid or those old pieces or trim . I need some bits and pieces to finish some missing areas . Old and crusty is fine , it will blend with rest .  Tom

General Discussion / Re: 30-U universal joints
April 11, 2020, 12:39:55 PM
A search on AACA forum will show plenty . There are shops that build them for about 250 -450 dollars . With two modern universals and a slip joint . Some use your ends and get it balanced . You can cover the joints with leather boots to hide .
All race / stock car owners will know who and where these places are .

General Discussion / Re: Delco generator

Generators  are pretty straight forward . Look for local auto electric repair shop . Truckers , farmers can lead you . Kits are available that even include brushes . Is it just not working or you doing pm on it ?

Thanks ,  used a break to make the 90's . On the pan , I actually started wrong , figured I could bend from one side thru other .
The 5/8 lip around oil pan profile cannot be done unless stamped so did the straight only . Then allowed extra 1/4" in curves , and hammered them over 4-1/2 pipe . This moved weld of curved pieces to above radius and less noticeable . Nephew welded . Wife does not want me in ER again with oxygen catching  fire . It is hard on facial hair and nasal passages . I also over made lip height  and trimmed to size latter . Bending the lip area should , maybe done first . I was able to use a metal shop break with removable sections . Otherwise  ,would have had to hammer in .
