Yes the board has been very quiet.  I guess that means everything is running well.  As far as the gas gauge is concerned I assume yours is on the tank like mine.  I would think it would be relatively easy for a glass guy to cut a new crystal for you.   Can't help with the speedo cable but will keep an eye open.

Glad you stopped by.  I didn't drive around much basically I am helping my daughter move between two houses and she need the use of my storage space.  By the way I picked up a present for you that you might appreciate.  I am away this weekend and next but we have to hook up soon so I can give it to you.  When I saw it, I new a woody owner would appreciate it.  That's all I'm saying for now.

On Sunday I went over to the storage facility and removed the car cover on the 29 and fired her up for a drive.  After sitting since November she started right up without even charging the battery.  Just an FYI, I use a low pressure electric fuel pump.  The Kingston pump is there but it's currently just for show.  Someday I will hook it up.

Things are getting back to normal.  The insurance adjuster came by today so we can now start getting things back in order.  I hope things are going well for you now and I am glad that you are able to stop back in.

Well Tuesday of this week and since then we have been pelted with huge amounts of rain in very short periods of time.  Of course the Virginia soil is clay based and doesn't drain water very easily.  For the last 11 years we have lived here in our current home water free but Tuesday night before I was getting on a plane for a business trip at 5:00 AM the next morning my wife and I spent a number of hours ripping up carpets in our split foyer home.   The insurance adjuster is coming Monday but what a mess and the rains continue to come.

I hope things are going well for you all, but currently we are immersed in more work then I really want to do.  Hopefully at some point this spring I will take my old car out for a drive.  Maybe tomorrow if it doesn't rain.  (Fat Chance)  Hopefully the wood wheels have swelled up tight.

The 5/8 V belt should work fine if you get it a little smaller.  You can find them in farm & garden centers that sell a lot of mowers.., Now-a-days they use these size belts for lawn mowers and tractors.  The auto stores generally only have 1/2"

5/8 starting with 32 inch circumference.  They run in 1" increments.

The generator adjustment is the only adjustment for the 28Q-29U.  You might need a smaller belt.

Doug,

The center wire in the steering column is grounded when you press the horn button.   So this wire is providing the horn with the Plus (+) side of the battery.   The other horn terminal should be going to the Negative side of the battery to complete the circuit.  In the Plymouth diagram this connection is coming from the fuse under the dash, going to the horn, then off to the terminal on the steering wheel switch to complete the path for voltage to your lights.   If the fuse or connections are bad you can connect to any negative path but I would put a fuse in this circuit to protect your wiring.

I am not sure about the numbers, my switch has no numbers or I can't read any

Be careful connecting wires in the Plymouth if they are not fused.  You can smoke the wires real quickly.  Use any 10 or 15 Amp fuse to protect your original wiring.

Rodney that is some kind of adventure.., for sure.  That is like driving to Florida and back for me.  I have concerns driving large distances only because of the speeds that modern roads demand on our cars.  If I could keep to a 30 – 35 mph regiment I would be fine with a long trip. 

Please keep us posted on your progress.  A picture per day would be great if you could swing it and we will be here to offer any advice and cheer you on form the peanut gallery.

I am a firm believer in the expression, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

If your car is running well, not missing, and the wires are not cracked or have white spots from arching then you may want to let it go.  If not, going to a modern auto parts supplier might present a problem in that they usually sell sets that are precut for the car you have and I doubt if your 29 is in their computer.   Also modern high energy ignition systems use resistive wires which may present a problem with your low energy coil.

If you find a local supplier of farm equipment or antique car parts they may have roll wire that they could cut to your desired lengths.   The coil to distributor wire is pretty long.

Or you could by a set from a supplier like Andy Bernbaum.  See link below.  Be cautioned that customer service isn't one of their strong suites but they ship fast and prices are OK.

The steering wheel switch is a good one.  When I rewired my car I rang out that switch with an ohmmeter to determine which post was which.  I regret that I didn't make a diagram and it's been too long a time to remember with any accuracy.   If I ever get my car out of storage this year I will have to go back and diagram that item.  Whether the switch ever had any markings or not.., I am not sure but  I couldn't find any on mine.

I wouldn't use cork.  This flange needs to be tightened down pretty good and cork will flatten and deform.  I don't know about the rubber but I would suspect a similar reaction but certainly not to the same degree as cork.  Also rubber may not like the temperature of the head, I don't really know what the advantages and disadvantages are.   The standard paper gasket materiel should work fine with some gasket sealer.  Probably almost anything will work, the water system isn't pressurized.    My car just had silicon, which I replaced with a proper gasket after I fix a stripped screw hole.  The flange was only tightened properly on one side.  I guess that's why the previous owner choose silicon.
