Title: Finally!
Post by: Russ T. Fender on May 13, 2021, 12:22:15 PM
For the first time since 1973 I got to hear my 30-U freshly rebuilt engine run.  I tried getting oil pressure up by cranking over with the spark plugs out with no success even after back filling the oil galley and pump through the plug above the pressure regulator and the vacuum tank feed line.  In desperation I decided to take a chance and try and start the car up anyway.  The minute the engine kicked over the oil pressure gauge jumped right up to 45 pounds and held steady.  I only ran the engine for a few minutes as the BB-1 carburetor I was  using would not idle down but the engine sounded great.  Started it a couple of times later in the day and it jumped to life instantly with great oil pressure.  Once I get the carburetor issue resolved I will try to get the vacuum tank set up.  I just used a gravity feed from a gas can for the initial start up.

Great news, it's always a good feeling to hear it run after such a long period of silence.

Congratulations.

Exciting!  Memories of yesteryear, but no rebuild in 1965.

Hay Russ

How are things going.  The forum has been extremely quiet.  Make anymore progress on your car ?

Thanks for the inquiry Chet.  Unfortunately I have been in the hospital until two weeks ago.  What was supposed to be a simple procedure to repair a mitral valve turned into a 68 day hospital stay 45 days of which were in an induced coma. I am still several weeks away from being able to do much of anything other than rehab.  I have the interior and soft top insert left to finish and some wiring and plumbing but all that is on hold for the time being.  I like to say I am 85% complete and still have 75% left to finish!

Russ,

Sorry to hear of your illness.  I am glad you are starting to heal and out of the hospital.  It's unfortunate that hospitals are so busy these days.  Its good that you are out now and hopefully you will get stronger with every rehab session.  You stay safe, the work will be waiting for you when you are ready to get back into the drivers seat.  The site has been so quiet I hope everyone is doing fine.

Chet...

Thanks Chet!  At least I got to hear it run a couple of days before I went into the hospital.
